Had a tractor that had been heavily smoked in, about 20 yrs ago.
There is still a smell in the cab roof to this day.
At the end of the day, you do not own your employees, but It makes sense to forbid smoking in buildings and vehicles.
Parents always used to say to us kids if you want to smoke do it openly, do not hide round the buildings and set the place on fire.

My late uncle worked at a garden centre locally, it was declared a smoke free zone anywhere on the premises, at break times there would be six or so staff sat on the church wall opposite the place having a fag, then someone from the church complained about fag ends littered outside, so the staff moved down the road some way and threw them in the field below the church instead.

As an employer of a number of staff, some of who smoke, I was wondering what smoking policies you adopt around the farm seeing as it’s an addictive habit.
We operate a blanket “no tolerance” in machines and buildings under the threat of dismissal but allow smoking in open areas. Fair?
I don’t smoke but don’t be so miserable and let them have a fag where ever they want as long as there doing there work I have no promblem with it

Only casual potato grading staff smoke here always on their break outside, they seem to live on fags and red bull.

Had a tractor driver that retired a few years ago he was a heavy smoker but only in his own tractor and none of the shared machines, about 25 a day for 40 years.

A friend bought an used Range Rover Sport that stank of the previous owners cigarettes. It cost the dealer a new headlining and carpets plus another £1500 money back to persuade him to keep it.

While i have a strict no smoking policy and cant stand the stink myself, it is sometimes difficult to enforce. For instance my brother in law sometimes helps with tractor driving and it’s not worth quarrelling with him about it, because he’s doing me a favour and he’s my wife’s brother. I ask him as seldom as possible though.

I'm a smoker and I have probably smoked inside one of our machines maybe once or twice In ten years (I'm 27 now). Would never let anyone smoke in a cab and I never would myself again. If they are that addicted to smoking that they can't go an hour or two without one and have to constantly have one on the go then wouldn't employ them, no one needs to smoke that much.
Always wondered what your avatar pic was. Your lungs:(

How long would that last for? Surely a damn good thrashing with some air freshener and or leaving in the shed with windows open and it would go.
In bad cases, it will last for ever!Several trade in cars, ex stinker owners were traded, as found to be impossible to clean.
