Smoking

For your own sake and for those close to you I'd encourage you to give them up. My Dad had a lung removed about the time of my 12th birthday but he remained ill for the next 2 years before passing away. He had given up about 8 years previously but the damage was already done. The consequences for my Mum and myself were frankly awful. That was 28 years ago and I'm still living with the aftermath. Cigs are devious - fight them by whatever means necessary. Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Try weening yourself off them.

If you are on 20 a day then only take ten to work, leave the other ten at home, couple weeks later drop to five a day then a couple. If you can manage on a couple you can manage with none.

A lot of people just say stop, not everybody has the will power, you wouldn't be asking the question on here if you did.

You need to change your morning routine. If you stop going to shop in morning to buy fags, you will find that you automatically cut down (even if you buy some later in day)
Mints or sweets help too

My friend smokes Consulate ,,£10.90 a pack ,,been trying for long enough to get her to stop but I may aswell talk to the dog ,get more sense from it.
Still remember my grandad gasping for air after he was told he had emphysema ,one lung had completly had it ,the other was a third cloged up .
My nan just told him you better pack in because Im not changing the oxygen cylinder ,,he cut back from 20 to 2 a day by order of his doctor ,,he lived till he was 86 and died of something completely unrelated

I packed up when they hit a fiver for a 20 pack of decent cigs (so a long time ago now, or so it seems) What are you paying now and how much are you spending / smoking? I put a fiver a day into a glass jar so I could see how much money I wasn't wasting anymore, never mind the health benefits

Used the money to buy myself a 'treat' every now and again that would last. Good second hand airgun and scope, good tools, ABBA stand for my bike etc. Bought stuff I needed / wanted that was quality and would last a lifetime if looked after and would always have a resale value. Unlike a pack of 20, what are they now £11 in the shops for 20 none floor sweepings and sawdust smokes?

Are you on town smokes or Rollie's?
Switching to Rollie's instantly reduces the amount you smoke, a by not as much in each smoke.
B you only tend to have one when you really want one not just chewing on them for sake of habit.

That's probably about where I'm at, I still like one with the morning coffee and one before bed, but managed to work most of the other ones out of the daily ritual.
Keep busy is the ticket, I pretty much run around like the proverbial headless chicken when I feel a smoke coming on ("boldly going nowhere" is what we call it here)
Even if it means going for a jog over somewhere else to do not much for ten minutes..
I found my biggest smoke fest was following cows to be milked, so I used to tear around putting up breaks etc instead of walking them in.. just little changes to scenarios where you'd normally have a smoke burnin' can let you cut them right back. Make all your vehicles smokefree for a starter and then chairs when you mastered that. Generally limit your opportunity to fish them out and smoke them (y)
patches didn't help me, as then I had a reminder about smoking everytime I moved
gum was OK but almost ended in divorce
e cigs are good for idle hands (and wet days)
don't snort limeflour ;)
I just try and stick to 2 or 3 a day and appreciate them with a stinking hot brew :) rather than say I'm not buying any more (or I'll be a slave to it)
Best of luck with it (y)

Look at the price of the bloody things!
A friend of mine did just that! she used to smoke 25 a day and then one day another friend told her to sit down with pen and paper ( or possibly the back of a a fag packet!) and work out how much it cost her per day, then multiply it by 365.... She said she got such a shock she gave up instantly.
I lost an uncle to lung cancer a few years ago (The ironic thing is he NEVER smoked in in his life but yes, it does happen) it was horrible.

Hypnotherapist stopped me from 80+ a day to zero in four £50 sessions - that was around 2000? Not had a smoke or thought about it since - best £200 Ive paid out (y)
A guy I knew tried acupuncture (I mean from a proper Chinese doc who had studied the subject for 5 years) He had the first session , went home and thought to himself "Ha! what a load of old rubbish I am dying for a fag!" he lit one up and put it in his mouth. "All of a sudden" he said " I got this really awful taste in my mouth and I felt truly sick " and said he couldn't bear the thoughts of having another cigarette in his mouth. OK it worked for him but it probably wouldn't work for everyone.

Smash the ashtray, if you have one. (But don't if it's valuable) The wife has a friend that smashed hers accidentally, not that it was valuable, she had trouble finding another one as it was French and they were only available in France. This friend of my wife has these special tablets, that are apparently are supposed to stop her from smoking, they don't work at all. She says "They don't work because I keep leaving the lid off them". That's just an excuse as she can't give up cheroots. Don't be like her. Just give them up and think of the money!

I have two long term smoking associates who stopped via acupuncture.3y ago
I smoked 40 a day at least! for 50 years (since woodbines were in 5,s) until 3 yrs ago and verging on 60 a day . The budget stuck them up to 8.50 a pack so I gave them back and said to myself only "that's it "
No one ever asked if I had stopped , and I didn't mention it to no one .
I havnt had one since , and wont do ... but I still could if my self would let me .
Youre in charge and only you can do it .
I have recently had a hospital visit , and was not asked if I smoked ,but if I ever had ? The pride in being able to answer this in honest fashion now gives me immense pleasure. ( Nearly as much as havinafag)
Do it and stick too it , you will be full of self esteem . And you can buy a new ifor every year instead.
