Smut/bunt in spring barley

Have noticed that most of my spring barley fields have varying amounts of bunt developing. I understand this is seedborne and the seed dressing should have sorted it. All my seed was purchased from a merchant. It's planet and dressed with beret gold.

Barley does not get Bunt, it's only host is wheat.

In Barley it's most likely to be loose smut.

I'll try uploading a pic

Tell merchant you planned to keep that for home saved seed next year, but can't now.

Would you not need to fully clean down any machinery that's been in contact with it too, to stop it infecting anything else?

There was quite a lot about 2018 was it or it could have been last year. We don’t grow barley but I remember it being discussed at TAG field days and seeing it in a few crops. All on treated seed and it was causing some concern as to what was going on as the seed treatment should easily have sorted it.

Defiantly not Bunt in your photos.

I don't think Beret Gold is particularly good on Loose Smut and there is no product label claim for this disease (on barley).

As others have mentioned there are records of the disease over-coming the seed treatments. Try googling "barley loose smut 2018"

How would you clean properly? I blow out the seed hopper with the air line , but what else could be done?

I meant the combine/drier/trailers I don't know how easily its spread though.

One things for sure the seed merchant won't be paying out for it. He'll be passing the buck further down the line.
