no place for staff that are hard on kit anywhere any more, even on dairy and livestock farms. a 100k tractor is a 100k tractor, no matter what kind of farm/contractor owns it, and it needs to be looked after. rather pay an extra couple £ per hour for a decent operator than have endless repair bills and downtime.
Pay decent staff a decent wage!!! , fckin madness , what kind of farmer are you ? :ROFLMAO:

A local contractor hires 1or 2 200hp case tractors for £12 an hour and he swears with no tyres/ servicing/ repairs etc it’s the cheapest way to run a new tractor and has one pretty much all year around.
I guess it all comes down to deals offered really.
You actually never know how good a tractor has been untill it’s left the farm and literally no point in talking up it’s reliably until then.
Probably best policy would to be to Chuck a set of brakes and tyres on the one you already own if needed and keep driving it

Is this warranty covered by manufacturer or outside warranty firm like when I go to Argos the sales assistant is trained to sell extra cover ,same with cars but would you get full cover at 8000 hrs
or only partial

We’ve 2 Agco machines and the warranty is manufacturer covered, no excess on warranty work, and I’ve been pleased with it. When I last looked at it, some other brands were manufacturer for yr 1, then it moved to a 3rd party which included excess to pay on breakdowns and various components excluded depending on what level of cover you bought.

Need to replace our big tractor (require 200hp+ boosting up) but am not sure of best way forward.

Buy new - expensive but warranted
Buy used - cheaper but could be a bag of spanners
Long term hire - not overly cheap but no hidden costs unless over hours. No equity either

Tractor likely to clock 1000+ hrs on triple mowers, 6m power Harrow or strip tiller, large silage trailer, large slurry tanker and fert spreading
Front links/PTO and guidance a must

Thoughts?

new, high quality brand, look after it, service on the dot, run for 5000hrs, if without issues run to 10000 then sell, get a fair chunk of capital back towards its replacement
