I too might need my head looking at but thinking a Fastrac may suit me. There is a 2155 ,2007 model, 6000 hrs for sale not a million miles away from me. I have no idea what to check or ask really so has anyone got a view or comment ? Not seen it and only one photo but seems it a Cummins engine, Eaton box.
I ve reread this thread and found some other threads over the years including one from @Two Tone a while back re a chip.
Not going to be used that much hours wise and most will be road work pulling bowsers, 12000 ltrs, so on liquid fert will be 18 tonne weight max to pull. A bit of rolling and stubble rake plus 14t grain trailers at harvest.
Have managed for three and a half years with no tractor(just handler and SP sprayer) and have three other great guys who let me hire tractors as and when but it's getting a pain to keep asking, weather keeps messing up plans, insurance co are getting a bit stroppy as I m constantly putting tractors on and off my insurance so think that having a quick, safe, legal and British tractor of my own is probably the correct course of action.

6000 hrs for a 2007 tractor isn’t a lot. In fact, it is on the low side. Which suggests it has had an easy life and probably been looked after.
If it is at a JCB dealer, they will check all the necessary. If not, all you really need to check is the brake pads and that the props shafts have been greased and are ok. Get underneath and try rattling them. Everything else is bomb-proof.

Re a chip: Try it without and see how you get on. It is long hills that will determine if you need one or not. Remember that the 2155 is identical in every respect to the 2170 apart from the engine ECU. You can buy a chip from Chip Express for £399 that will boost the hp from 160 to 215. It won’t make it smoke. It doesn’t even make it sound different. All you will notice apart from one hell of a lot more power and fewer gear changes, is it will run slightly hotter when it is pulling hard. It will take about 10 minutes to fit.

These Fastracs have a proper gearbox with 3 spits in each gear. So no power loss through power shifts or Hydrostatics.
However, you will need to know which gears to miss out as you change down going up a hill.
If you are in top gear (High range, gear 6, highest split), as the engine revs drop, go to middle split then lower split.
Then as revs keep dropping, miss out 5th gear altogether and go to 4th gear, but as you use the clutch, put it into middle split at the same time. If the engine revs continue to drop, go to the lower split. Then 3rd lower split if you have to.
Doing it this way ensures you never come to a grinding stop.

Going up the gears, you will find that you can also miss several gears out, depending on the load.

I had just about gave up on wanting a 1135, this thread hasn't helped, don't know why other than a bit of haulage id say it wouldn't do anymore than 2-300 hrs a year. am I made going for one this old

I’d try to go for a 2135 if you could. Massive improvement clutch and gear wise between the 2.
You might find a old 3000 series cheaper to buy. More hp for less money.

im in no panic, don't really need it but that doesn't mean it wont be bought. didn't intend buying anything the last two years but that resulted in buying a tractor and a baler, so there is hope for next next year. not many fastracs about now as most tractors now come with 50km,

Drain the air tanks, give her a full service.. Ideally take the wheels off and check the calliper pistons are returning freely and pads are ok. Easy to rebuild if not. Check all uj's but we never had one fail in 8000 hours. They seem to be better than people make out if greased now and again. There is a bit of a trick hitching up trailers by watching the top of the hitch rods as it hits the ground.. Then lift a little then reverse. or fit a mirror/camera. For shunting about, use middle range as much as possible to get equal speeds back and forth.. Your back should be happier!

Don't worry, just poking a little. Wouldn't mind a 2170 myself. Or maybe even a new 4000 series
There’s quite a few of the new 4000 series here on water tankers. We don’t have any yet, but some other hire companies do.
I think it’s a bit sad, and a waste that they spend their entire lives on water carts. And most of the water they carry is bore water. Very salty. That’s why they have so many electrical issues.
That, and the fact that they’re all self drive hire makes for a very hard life for these girls...??

Today I was look at this Jcb. 2003y. Smooth shift. With ABS
LMH. LM works fine. H not engaging. Just blinking H on the dash. Where too look. Everything looks working fine on gearbox. Dipstic bit low oil in gearbox. But no leaks underneath.

Hitchin hasn't been used for age. Traktor was used on road works in Norway. So have tu put some load to lower the links.
And red led lit under a book, sign.

Where to engage 540 PTO now spinning on 1000 rpm.

For the gears, look at the micro switches under the cab on the air selector rams, sometimes they come off as they are only held on with hose clip type things.or the wires may be broken off ...you should be able to buy the switches on the internet cheaper than jcb s.even if they look ok you can circuit test them easily.the red light on the hitch will be a fault code.it will blink the code ,e.g. Long pause, two blinks, short pause then three blinks would be code 23 and then look up the code on a workshop manual from ebay.the manual would be worth the money if you buy it and are new to fastracs.pto speed change lever is in your photograph ,right at the bottom near the cab floor.. check the back axle v link that holds the axle steady isn't worn, you will hear it clunk if you just rock it gently on the clutch and watch and listen through the back window.not too expensive but not a nice job.

Red light on the side panel will be hydraulics locked after starting, flick big hydraulic switch up and down to unlock. It should then work and have no light on. Flashing light will be a blink code. 3,3 will be low battery voltage and switch won't work.
