So is the ELMS scheme going to get put back because of Coronavirus ?

As far as I know, and I haven’t looked into all this the RPA are reducing payments. I was assuming that we could do environmental thing’s possibly to still claim it. As far as I know, they don’t know what they want us to do or how much they are going to pay. So with all this in mind and the decisions about ELMS possibly being put back a year or 2 what will happen?

Yup, the environment is only a thing for people with nothing else to worry about. Well everyone has plenty to worry about now so expect the environment to drop off the agenda along with any funding

were all gonna be out of business then esp as BPS by end of 2024 will only be 50% of what it is atm.
Lets hope us Tenants can get somewhere with Farm Rents or we are gone first.
Its going to be an eye opener for all of us, Ag inputs will all have to be reduced & Machinery haha they need to come to the same table & start reducing there numbers

Agree 100%.got a bricklayer I work with self employed living beyond his means and has done for ages.was complaining last week how it will be impossible to live with no money.no savings either and bringing home over £1700 a month after tax.but he likes new cars and fast food and spending on lots of uneccessary things.will be a massive wake up call to all the people who spend every penny they get and there is a lot of them.if with boris paying out some cash to workers I’d imagine it will be months before it starts appearing as there is not the staff to administrate it all

Thats what I see. I’m surprised they started reducing the payments without having the environmental schemes in place. Thats without considering the effects of Coronavirus.

Farming and agriculture are wholly undervalued and taken for granted due I think to ignorance as much as anything. Considering most people live in towns and cities and don’t have room or skills to be self sufficient in the food basics they should be more concerned about where their food is coming from and at what rate it an be produced. The payments are going down without a direction for the future with the threat of cheap imports and no post brexit arrangements with the eu, which are obviously years away from being sorted out now.

they say subsidys will be paid in sterling this year rather than euros but when and how will they convert the 220 euros/ha or whatever the acre payment is to the sterling? or will they just go on last years figures
The conversion rate was set some time ago I seem to recall.

I think ? the conversion rate for payments going out 1st Dec onwards is set at end Sept of that year. Depending on the £ / euro at that time
From the link above:

The Government has confirmed the level of funding available for BPS Direct Payments for 2020 is the same as for 2019 and it intends to set the exchange rate at €1 = 0.89092. This is the same as last year so that farmers will see no material difference in their BPS payments.
