How better to demonstrate our wish to trade with the world than reject universal S.I. Units ?

Even the USA has a metric conversion act

From the Times …

“Boris Johnson is to announce the return of imperial weights and measures, …”
Just need to get back to using Pounds, Shillings and Pence. The rest of the world will soon come round and see it the British way.

Don't worry bout it, be ok..!
I have heard of a plan to go metric in the U.S. but it got ignored so quietly went away, back in the 1970's I believe.

I still have a feet, acre and cwt brain so I'm not bothered.

Selling cattle per pound will take some adapting, as will adjusting to the imperial ton, but I'm probably in a better position than the litre and kg/ha new age types.

Considering some of the idiotic and imbecilic things Boris has come up with, this is far from the worst.

So are US made JD’s SAE or Metric or do these snippets from another forum ring true ?

“Deere even though it is an American company is worldwide and most of the world uses metric.... so metric it is.”

“Most American made cars and trucks are metric now as well.

The good thing about our Deere's being metric is that the JD dealer is a good source of metric nuts and bolts for your vehicle.

And yes, metric and that torx stuff is what you need in your tool box now.”

UK pledges to restore pounds and ounces as Brexit benefit

Boris Johnson’s government has promised it will legislate to allow British traders to sell their wares in pounds and ounces, rather than grammes and kilos, as it unveiled plans to seek a deregulatory dividend from Brexit. The restoration of old imperial weights, long a demand of Brexiters who resented the imposition of metric measures by Brussels, was among the top potential benefits of the UK leaving the EU listed on Thursday by Lord David Frost, the minister responsible for implementing Brexit.

Stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid.

I think you my find the key word in that piece is "allow".
In other words.
If you don't want to buy your beef mince from the local butcher, who may soon be allowed to and want to sell his in lbs and ozs... go to Tesco and buy it in kilos and grams.

The whole point of standards is consistency and transparency for fair competition and consumer protection.

Retailers selling in £/lb may be fleecing those and you can't compare to somewhere else. It's why you always have a £/kg or £/100g on products.

Remember we are already allowed dual units. But the metric must be shown for fairness.

Seems a bit silly after 50 years of metric. How are today's kids going to get their heads around things measured in 12s? I think its fine as it is. Most farmers still talk in acres and we buy beer in pints and use mph on the road. Leave it as it is.

People were actually put in prison for selling vegetables in markets in lb and oz. Prison. I can't see anything wrong in allowing people to sell their produce in lb and oz again if they so wish.
Only in the UK - In France you can still buy Raw Milk in re-cycled Coca Cola bottles in many rural markets.

So many of the EU rules were goldplated in Whitehall it's as though there was an anti-EU agenda in there somewhere....
