I’m just going to get myself a dog and a stick and call myself a holistic farmer........joking!
@Bossfarmer would demand a grant to buy said dog or stick - I mean why should he pay !!

If you dont want any beef produced in the UK that's fine .Isn't that what all businesses need to do, adapt and survive? If you stand still you go backwards!
What people are ignoring is that we compete with countries that do subsidise to enable cheap food and that we have no control over whether they subsidise or not. If we stop subsidising our very high cost production in the UK, nobody else is likely to reciprocate. You can forget that notion.
That puts UK producers at a severe competitive disadvantage.
So all is talk of the European single market has always been nonsense. If the Irish are subsidising their beef farmers and we aren't then how can it be called a single market? It's nothing of the sort.
When we leave the EU we could at least have some control over heavily subsidised goods arriving on our shores. It's only fair that they should be subject to some kind of restrictions if they are subsidised by their governments and undercutting our home producers.
The same thing happened when the firm I worked for tried to export machinery to Germany. Supposed to be a single market but it didn't meet specification number 46 of the province of Schleswig Holstien or some such nonsense (i.e it wasn't made in Germany) so they wouldn't let it in and bought their own machines instead, which were expensive and poorer quality.
But Britain seems to be the only place in the world where charity doesn't begin at home and we are quite happy to be royally done over time and again by Johnny Foreigner who must be laughing so hard.
Do beef farmers get direct subsidies now . I cant think of anyWhat people are ignoring is that we compete with countries that do subsidise to enable cheap food and that we have no control over whether they subsidise or not. If we stop subsidising our very high cost production in the UK, nobody else is likely to reciprocate. You can forget that notion.

so would i but is it happening? farmers used to get 55% of the margin by the time beef was sold now its down to mid 40%, unsustainableSubsidies aren't the answer in my opinion. Its obvious to our customers/supplier and they just factor it in to buying price.
Would rather just get fair price for what we're producing.

im talking about beef headage subs not landowners, great attitude towards the beef sector, everyone just sell up the irish will support their farmers but we wont support ours!!!!I would rather my tax went to the NHS than a Scottish land owner thanks
Me and pretty most other voters would agree I think so thats what those MP guys that they elect will do
stop moaning, you are better off than most people and you don't HAVE to farm if you cant make it stack up then sell up !
im talking about beef headage subs not landowners, great attitude towards the beef sector, everyone just sell up the irish will support their farmers but we wont support ours!!!!
beef producers are losing £100/head just now regardless of system while the price in shops is only back 2%, while our closest competitors are getting a £93/head extra sub, ill express my opinion thank you very muchDo you EVER stop whinging & complaining about how tough it is ?
If it's REALLY that bad, why don't you cash it all in, get another job, invest your money elsewhere, emigrate, or run for politics ?
Where there is a scheme there is a schemer!New entrants would be attracted to profitability.
mabye because the irish who are our nearest competitors understand the current economics of beef production and have came up with a rescue package while ours are talking about removing them altogether, do farmers not count in this country??seriously why do you think you deserve any support ? your sense of entitlement is unbelievable
If you cant make it pay sell your farm and retire - you are already better of than 99% of the population yet you expect the tax payer to pay you to loose money ??? !!!
Why wasn't I tagged? I fell left out, excluded and am probably on ignore but I don't care.
Where there is scheme there is a schemer. Subsidies are a bit like hitting the bottle in bad times. Masks the problems but they are still there when you sober up.
Subsidies end up soaked up by input cost inflation and land price rises anyway. They are a cop out.
do you return your subs to the government then?and i'm yet to see any evidence they make farmers any better off
We have subs now .......... anyone claim to have been making a fortune ??
ive heard no talk whatsoever on a ban on irish beef coming in, wont happen, either support us or well get rid of the cowsThe only support you will get from anyone in the future is an environmental payment . What the Irish do privately is up to them but inside of the EU you have no way of stopping their beef coming in , I would sooner have a go at stopping it by putting pressure on our own government directly which we will be able to do in a few months along with some tractors blocking the port entrance
the narrow mindedness is shocking just because a lot of your sub is factored into rent you want rid of them,@Bossfarmer would demand a grant to buy said dog or stick - I mean why should he pay !!
If you ever think you will ever see beef headage subs in this country again your in Cuckoo land .im talking about beef headage subs not landowners, great attitude towards the beef sector, everyone just sell up the irish will support their farmers but we wont support ours!!!!
Genuine question..... UK barley is the cheapest on the planet, straw price is on the floor, plenty of fodder for sale on FB for less than COP...... how are you losing £100 / head ? Am I missing something ?beef producers are losing £100/head just now regardless of system while the price in shops is only back 2%, while our closest competitors are getting a £93/head extra sub, ill express my opinion thank you very much
figures quoted from the scottish farmer, many are losing £200, i produce my own barley/straw and have no rent so figures will be differentGenuine question.....
