So much for market forces......

It's quite amusing on here that certain individuals who've never
run a farm business in their own right are so knowledgeable
about subsidies.
These were a huge success providing food at a price
that was just above the cop to the general public of all income
streams.
It allowed farmers to reinvest in their businesses and diversify to
a point that the modern farmers are far more efficient today than they were
20 years ago.
No subsidies =higher food prices as change will be forced so no oversupply
In the market which means dearer food.
The ignorance of some is unreal,we have had to farm in a highly regulated fashion
to receive these subsidies something which alot of our competitors haven't.
Subsidies go ,fire up the D9 and no more regulation from this UK government.
Yeah.........fine for those that actually got subsidies..... Those that got the biggest payments, seem to be the biggest Eurofans. Funny that.

Yeah, and a lot of remainers don't give a fudge about anybody other than themselves.
On the contrary, I worry very much about the general economy of the UK and the jobs and income of the man on the street. I deplore the millionaire toffs and their followers who are willing to see the economy devastated in the name of…what…some stupid notion of jealousy and belief that they have been hard done by, when all along they have been masters of their own destiny and their neighbours who followed different paths have prospered. One prominent brexit supporter here, and you all know who, has been transformed into a multi-millionaire through decisions he made, but totally facilitated by EU policies and payments. The stark contrast between you and him, despite the same political aim of pushing the UK into the abyss, must have even you scratching your head, thinking "what could I have done different?".

Well, as he said, if it's there, take it. ( I presume we're talking about FT ).
Don't get me wrong, I'd hate to see anyone suddenly have their subs removed like I had. It's either double the price of farm produce ( highly unlikely ), or continue with subs now. An incredibly deep rut, which UK ag will never be able to climb out of. Ever.
What could I have done different ? Played the system and bought a load of high value entitlements, I suppose. Didn't have the balls, knowing there's a goalpost shift every 5 years.

If you haven't got the balls for business, don't complain or be jealous of those that do, can and go for it and make it work for them. Unless you work the system and your business, you ain't ever going anywhere.

Furthermore, don't assume the motives of those that don't agree with you, especially when the vast majority are concerned with the greater good, the unity of the UK, peace and unity in Europe and so on. In other words, 'the bigger picture' rather than blatant nationalism, self interest [in your case as stated, although IMV mistaken] and the 'little Englander' syndrome.

Were you very concerned about the 52% of farmers who've disappeared since 1972 ?
That is no more than an average attrition rate and far far far lower loss of farmers than between 1945 and 1975, as I have previously provided references and figures for.

If your market for lamb leaves between 35,000 and 50,000 tons surplus in the UK, as estimated by AHDB, and your beef subject to tariffs to entry into Europe while the Americas and Africa can import almost free of tariff to compete with your farm's produce, how do you think that will make you prosper, decrease the loss of farms and generally improve your business? I really want to know. Need to know your logic. Need to know if your business would survive a year, or maybe two years or perhaps permanently in that new low income, cheaper food era with no subsidies, no safety net.
Go ahead and explain how you would thrive compared to today or yesteryear. Use simple mathematics if you like.

The EU payed for your stone picker
As for multi million air . I took a loan out to pay for my divorce and still not payed it off yet , the farm about breaks even but it's my investment for my old age when I cant work any more .
I live off trading . Did 1300 miles last week visiting customers and buying fodder
I had a lot of luck . Just shows how unjust the system was

Ah so farmers claim that subsidies keep food cheap, funny because hardly a day goes by without a thread being created and numerous people complaining that: 'food is too cheap' and: 'prices are the same as the 1960's' and so on; the consensus often seems to be that those damned dastardly Joseph Publiques are spending too much money on TVs, cars and houses and not enough on food, and even if they were those damned dastardly supermarkets would only take most of the pickings, leaving farmers with nothing.

World recession on the way, china's growth slowed 17% and we have 2k more unsecured debt p/ head than we had when faced with the 2008 recession. Italy, greece and argentina all going to go bust. Must be true, i read it in the daily mail!! Lessons havent been learnt and the worlds built on the never never . Homeowners will be posting there keys through the banks letter boxes. Bank of england should have raised rates to curb spending imo.

No we don't, we get what you get except ours is still on livestock and LFA and you get your sub's in one payment with no onus to do any work.
Yes our lamb is 110 pounds a head, but being undercut by Spanish lamb.
Our NI contributions cost us over 8000 a year but our land price is cheaper because of land tax and other restrictions.
If you think your hard done by now just wait , Boris is going to trade you out

We have a four inch page booklet of rules/ regs etc that we have to comply with to get the BPS payment!

Im sure you don't have anything like the rules we have to stick to when claiming subs!
