So, as I gather, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram have banned Trump from posting either temporarily or permanently. Thoughts on this? If you don't like him you may think its superb news. But then, what if they suddenly decide they don't like you? Like this forum where we may get a bit heated but have a laugh in the end? Personally I find this very disturbing. In our town we have a thing called ways with words where speakers come from all over the world and talk about whatever. Kate Adie who I am sure is probably left of center came down many years ago to argue for free speech in that you should have the right to make a fool of or hang yourself by your words. The gods of social media, a couple wierdos, have decided that is no longer the case. Shadow banning, de-monetising on Ytube etc.

You may hate Trump, you may not but is the most powerful man in the world not allowed a voice on the net? If he's not then what hope do you have? You can be silenced and disappeared any time they like.

I am personally removing myself from all these platforms. It's disgusting in my view and I want nothing to do with it.

I guess we are all allowed knives...
Until, we start cutting people
Not really. A normal UK citizen can't carry a lock knife of any size. I take a chainsaw instead even though I am allowed to carry a lock knife as I have a CPH number. I also have a leaf blower and an atom bomb in the truck just in case it kicks off in Lidl.

I would agree that a permanent ban is out of order (and I think he is an increasingly unhinged megalomaniac), but there must surely be a way to curb the deranged rantings of someone that appears to incite criminal activity. A month’s ban, as they regularly impose on folk that try to sell livestock, would be plenty to clip wings I would have thought, if it only takes the heat out of the situation temporarily.

Seems permanent though and there are many tales of youtube channels being hidden, demonetised if that is even a word and so on. The reason I bring it up is that it's all great when it's going your way and the 'bad guys' are being shut up but what about when that changes? I totally believe in free speech. Often makes me look like an idiot. Good. We must not let a few individuals decide what we can see and hear on any form of media. If someone comes out and says kill all black people, white people, Muslims, Christians, that is a criminal offence in most countries. Try them and jail them. Silencing people is never going to lead to a peaceful conclusion IMHO.

Trump banned but the Ayatollah of Iran and North Korea's leader King Jong-Un allowed free rein............just confirms what we already knew.
The Elites who control the media in America are consumed with hate for President Trump...(even before he became president)

I guess they see that as their privilege but it does not bode well for the future.........the thought police seem to be taking over.

Think of twitter as a Christian bakery,
And Trump as a gay wedding cake!

I just wish someone would ban Twitter, faceache, instagram and all the other social media nonsense.

But banning old trumpy isn't going to help matters, its just going to encourage all the nut bars to come up with more conspiracy theories.
I imagine after he's gone from the Whitehouse they'll let him back on.

Good point, I notice that some people who use social networks a great deal find it tough to carry out a good conversation..........your thoughts'

So what about all those websites that encourage kids to become anorexic or commit suicide - should they be allowed free rein too? And the Islamic radicalisation sites and accounts?

No, I’m not saying Trump did either of those things, but I do think a line needs drawn somewhere, and if they think he crossed it then as it’s their sandpit...

Social media platforms, like many other aspects in life have a set of terms and conditions you agree to when signing up to them. How many of us actually read all of small print in contained in them? Pretty sure somewhere in the T&Cs it will state that they can delete inappropriate content and impose bans on users for not adhering to those terms and conditions. I just surprised he got away with it as long as he did!

Plenty of people have been banned from social media, gaoled or even deported for inciting civil unrest and hatred. Most of the people on here would have supported such actions that have taken place in the past in this country. Such cases that have occurred in this country have largely involved extreme religious cranks but if a person with extreme power or influence decided to incite violence he would be put where his voice was not heard and rightly so.
In the case of Trump it is up to the individual to decide whether such a point has been reached. I have an open mind but freedom of speech is not sacrosanct to the extent that allows incitement to law breaking and extreme violence. There is also a distinction between the written word and the spoken word.
