Solar Electric Fencing

I did look at this one but I tried speaking to someone on the phone line couple times but kiwi kit answered got the sale. If we get on with it we run half a dozen units so will look again

They are all pretty good but in my experience Gallagher has the best warranty. I've found they are either fine for ages or break within a month. I've lost a s100 going down the road, and I watched it in the mirrors bouncing on the tarmac and bits of plastic case flying everywhere, but it still works fine. I've never had a to charge one, and they work every day of the year, but wouldn't be the most powerful, but perfectly adequate for sensible cows.

I'm looking for a more powerful one for whipping my R2s into line this summer. My collection of old car batteries is getting a bit crap, and the little barstewards soon work out when they've gone flat.

Has anybody bought a solar panel off the internet and rigged it up to charge the battery?I see you can buy a 25 watt solar panel for under £40.Would you need something to stop over charging the battery?Ive been on the phone with kiwi kit and they want £250 to £300 for the same thing.

I have one brought from aldi - it doesnt over charge as it has a cut of circuit in it. Very good and kepta batt charged from march till mid November this year, the bat never dipped bellow 13v running a 2joule 3 strand set up around 22 acres. Doing about half needed now but adds a week before the bat needs swapping.

To be fair the only thing that'll really nacker the battery is if it's left in a discharged state, say in the back if a shed over winter... when stored I try to make sure they're somewhere with some daylight falling on the panel to keep the battery voltage up.
Even then the 12v 7.2ah battery's can be brought for £15 online not a fortune...

I know this is a old post in a thread revival, and that I've strayed into the dairy section, as evidenced by the satisfaction expressed with fencers with 0.5 - 0.75 joules output.
However I bought a 40w panel with built in regulator 4 years ago for £90 and it will keep a 2.5 joules output fencer going all summer and 1 change of battery during winter.

Would agree, but just pointing out the 7 year warranty doesn't cover the battery or I would have purchased a gallagher instead of a Hotline (y)
