Thoughts ??
personally think. NO,
Plenty of new build distribution centres that should have compulsory roof solar,

Personally if they offered enough money they could cover my farm with panels (tried last year but couldn’t get grid connection) yes they not visually very attractive, but no noise or smell, and they can be screened if placed sensibly in a landscape. Roof based solar would make more sense, but economics and lack of grid infrastructure often make it unviable.
Land under solar panels could turned back to productive farm land a lot quicker than land planted with trees/re-wilded.

Some peculiar theories there,
How the hell can you screen 2500 acres ?
Lack of grid infrastructure on warehouse, I doubt it !!
Land could be turned back to production, ? what with ever increasing power demand, plus end of life solar farms equipment. will be Deemed as hazardous waste, !!

Screening on site of 2500 acres would take some doing ( am just talking of screening from ground level) but there is a 200 acre site not much more than a mile from here and you have to look very hard to even see part of it, I bet many people go within 100 meters of it on a daily basis and not even know it’s there.

Lack of infrastructure is the big one most of these warehouses/distribution centres have a ‘relatively’ low demand for electricity and very much doubt that the connection to grid they have could cope with peak generation of panels on all the roof area, we have solar panels on 1 shed roof 20kw capacity the most the DNO would allow on our single phase supply, and that probably only accounts for 1-2% of the roof area on a farm.
Old panels can pretty much be recycled or re used, expected lifespans of 40 years plus is the norm in the industry now. And the scrap value of the cables and frames covers the cost of disposal of the more problematic items. Normal procedure would to have an insurance backed bond to cover site clearance at the end of the lease period.

I'd do the same if I was offered enough cash. Would need to be in blocks rather than a blanket coverage though so some nature and recreational space was left for me.

I wonder what damage a bouncy 22 rimmy would do in the summer? Perhaps I'd be too much of a liability actually.

Only good thing is there is less ground for growing food which will have to get dearer. Give me solar farms over AD plants any day as long as i dont have to live near either of them

The worrying thing about the OP is the compulsory purchase part.

Not as worrying as the entire countries population being held to ransom for electric by the Russians. Take the money and run.

Government should be investing in renewables instead of HS2. If that means compulsory purchasing land near important grid sites then so be it.

Good point .

people want electric/energy ,its got to come from somewhere the fairies don't make it and like evrything we need its better to be closer to the source / local to use for the people.
