I saw that, and wondered how and why it should compulsorily purchased. If its a private scheme then its hardly national need is it.
Agree, non of these solar schemes should have powers of compulsory purchase. But the scheme in OP will class as national infrastructure.
And have had to go via Whitehall for planning.
Most schemes are working to <50 Mwh. This is the size of development that can be decided on by local planning authorities. With modern panel technology this can be achieved on 150 acres or less.

A lot of people on here really have no ides how the grid works.

Getting export is often not possible, even for smaller schemes!

Hell getting import can be bad enough.

Whilst it’s admirable and indeed a good idea to insist on roof Pv, many sites may not be viable if that was implemented.
Agreeded getting export is a big problem in some areas. Probably worth putting up solar at the minute if you are in an area where you can export so you have your space on the grid.

Obviously would need to be something you are thinking about and can justify but often not being able to export has shut wind turbine projects down round here before they get started.

I get the national need for energy. But if its a private business that will build operate and profit from it, then I don't see why some one should have their property compulsory purchased.
"I want to make a lot of money so you have to sell me your farm" is hardly right.
It’s worse than that, usually they are not just a private business but a hoard of investors from abroad benefiting from somebody’s loss

Personally if they offered enough money they could cover my farm with panels (tried last year but couldn’t get grid connection) yes they not visually very attractive, but no noise or smell, and they can be screened if placed sensibly in a landscape. Roof based solar would make more sense, but economics and lack of grid infrastructure often make it unviable.
Land under solar panels could turned back to productive farm land a lot quicker than land planted with trees/re-wilded.
er....once the panels are knackered, the site becomes 'brownfield' doesn't it?

bit scared to ask what a bouncy 22 rimmy is?
This I presume

I'd do the same if I was offered enough cash. Would need to be in blocks rather than a blanket coverage though so some nature and recreational space was left for me.

I wonder what damage a bouncy 22 rimmy would do in the summer? Perhaps I'd be too much of a liability actually.
dont know but with shotgun game shooting i think iirc there's a 50m no go area around the perimeter mainly to stop damage from hit birds crashing down and cracking a panel.

How much an acre are they paying at the moment?
Varies a bit on how good a site/cost to develop and distance to grid etc. in the north of England probably around £900 acre may be a touch more if you can get some battery storage on site. That figure usually has an inflation based annual increase, some operators work on a percentage of power generated.

What sort of rent are they offering nowadays? Electricity demand is increasing especially green produced so I should imagine they are offering tempting offers.
The last I heard was 6-800 an acre, but it may have firmed with recent prices. Of course with leases of 30+ years temporary fluctuations are not going to have a fast impact.
I wonder though if there may be offers coming out related to the export price

That sounds a bit low, as panel technology moves on they are getting more capacity per acre, compared to sites up and running. The last developer I talked to was wanting to get leases and planning for 40+ years on new sites.
