Staggering how cheap they are on eBay

That’s because they’re inefficient and shite, apart from on the day you manage to get them working properly, and not leaking fumes out into the house.

My parents had one back home, and I guess they still do as it’s buried under the concrete yard with a load of other scrap. Mother couldn’t wait to get rid of it, replaced by an oil boiler and an electric cooker.

Why would you get an inefficient oil fired Rayburn when you can buy a condensing boiler and a damned good cooker for a fraction of the cost? If you want to be a slave to logs & ash, then there are plenty of leaky old Rayburns knocking about cheap, having been removed by folk that have had enough. I’m told that the estate here have a shed crammed full of them, removed from tenanted properties, not that they’ve ever turned up with the promised replacement for ours of course (thankfully).

How big a log can you get on a solid fuel Rayburn? I have a friend who recently imported a refurbished one from the UK at great expense and he showed me the wood box on it my first reaction was bloody hell you'll either freeze or stoke it every ten minutes. Mine takes 50cm long by 25cm round logs.

This slave of my life will hopefully be out in a few months if anyone is interested!!! Was installed new in ‘84, always highly maintained and often run it at 200-250*C as it heats half the house.
Anthracite SA we’ve only ever put through it since new.

Value?

Gas boiler, current system is half coal half electric radiators and the house alone is costing £450/month in electric. New system going through the house, speaking to plumber last week their on about 50kw but may have to be bigger…

La Nordica Termo Rosa Xxl D.S.A Wood Burning Boiler Cooker
Fitted new last year, does all heating, hot water and cooking and only burn wood from trees I have planted, leylandii or apple. Love it! Had a similar model in my last house and loved that one too.
( room has a bit more going on in it since the pic)

Looks very nice but only cooker / room heater? No hot water / central heating? No lids on hot plate?

shite aka useful things ....

practical people need useful things around them available to use at a minutes notice...

dont really know why the wife tries to tidy it all up all the time :cautious:
I know you can and possibly should try to prepare for anything that may come along but I am struggling to justify the chainsaw currently in the room (and not a particularly recent addition)
