Solid urea use restricted and to be regulated by Red Tractor

It does make you wonder who the real backstabbers are.

Fertiliser companies who clearly don't like urea cutting into their marketplace and morons at the NFU who are more than happy to oblige them. Urea applied early in the cold and damp (where virtually everyone applies it) does no more harm than AN. It's balderdash to claim otherwise. The rest of the world relies heavily on urea as it reduces the volume of product needing to be shifted and applied. Urea is also kinder to soil life.

I'll be spreading uninhibited urea late next week. Crop canopies are decent and there will be some dew to melt it.

Spotted this in the latest Red Tractor "Member Matters" newsletter that turned up yesterday.

And how are they going to “police” all the farmers who are not Red Tractor assured?

It's interesting also that they state "if the urea industry doesn't self regulate".

To me the "urea industry" would be the manufacturers of such products.

And yet the quotes are not from the "urea industry" but from the farming industry.

I also note they refer him as "NFU Deputy President" as opposed to "Director on the board of Red Tractor".

The final sentence shows their intended direction of travel.....it won't stop here.

Can't be very transparent if he still hasn't found out what goes on

Not just that....but we appear to have gone backwards from that position.

After all, from 1st April 2024 there will no longer be a level playing field within the United Kingdom. English farmers will now be further concerned about "imports" from Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland......and potentially vice versa too.

Welsh, Scottish and Northern Irish farmers will not have any idea whether the wheat/barley/animal feed they are purchasing has been treated with fertilisers containing organophosphate compounds.

Good point.
