Don't forget the rocks.! You have to really like pigs to want to come over here to work with them. The smell of a hog barn... Yeah that would be considered relatively local, its within 6 hours or so.

Murph has been again there again this june with another groups he loves learning and sharing knowledge a wonderful human being.

He should bring his group to this place. If nothing else it is a good example of how to bootstrap your way from nothing to an established dairy farm. Without the benefit of investor money.

Also in that video link, note the pace those milkers work at. Most parlors on big dairies run like that 24/7. If they are considerate, they run 3 shifts. More often than not, it's only two shifts. Anyone eager to come give 12 hours of that pace a go?

We had a young lady from Texas come and help over a season, simply couldn't believe the workrate on 'a big dairy'!
5000 cows though, but vastly different to what I'm used to! Two 36 per side european style parlours, basically running around the clock for the whole year.
I sure wouldn't hack it.

As far as the employee side of things over here, big dairy farms are still meat grinders. The turn over is still very high. On the cow side of big farms things have improved a lot, from what I have seen/read. Honestly the bar was set pretty low for a good long while.

When it gets a bit warm we kick them into the rough as much as possible during the day time for shade.

That's too hot for me. When we had that week of 25-28 down here we lost at least 1 litre/cow/day and they picked up again when it dropped back to 20. Here in Devon most of summer is 18-22 which is spot on in my view.

It's a bitch, not as bad as some farther south have it. The humidity adds to it as well. When it stays hot for prolonged periods and the night temps stay high is when it really hurts . Looking at 50%+ drop in production at that point.
