Some help on salaries please

Hi all, I have been offered a job as a dairy herdsman,

5am start, Breakfast at 9 for 45mins. 2 hour lunch at 1pm, and 5:30 finish.
Rota is 6 days on 2 days off.

so I have little to no experience with cows, but I do work on farms a fair bit as an agg tyre fitter, so not shy of hard work. (This is how the job came about)

The job does come with a house but I am not taking it as I have one, so have been told that can reflect in my salary.

I have been offered 30k as it stands, and would like some feedback on what people think about this. Should it be more? Should I jump at it? Or what ?

Any help and or info appreciated.

I make that £11.25 an hour flat rate....... Although you aren't a dairyman that seems a bit low.
I mean it's not terrible, and I've been on far worse. It's a good few more hours than a standard week, bit that's farming right!!. But the 6 on 2 off is the bit that makes me think it's got to be worth it.

The job is worth 30k plus house when you are up to speed.
I'd try to agree what sort of pay level in 6-12 months when your doing it all.
What training foot trimming etc.
Presume this is salaried.
6 and 2 is good time off but won't give you many weekends.

The weekend part I get. It's not too much of a problem for me. My daughter s are teen-agers who now mainly want money and in permission to do things!! We do plan things together too.
And I don't really have a lot else going on that I'd miss dearly.
6 and 2 is also ok, I do 6 days a week as it is with a bit of sat and all of Sunday off.
I guess I'll have to try and get something arranged for raises as we go

Do you want to work with cows? Or just in ‘Agriculture’? Depending on where you’re located the best money for least hours will probably be in the agchem/supply industry. Plenty of training too. Would have a substantial lean toward arable though.

Welcome.
How come you been offered a job milking cows and have no experience with them?
Are they desperate or stuck, hows it come about?
They have had a lot of applications, but as I'm local, 1 mile from the farm, and I guess come across well, and not shy of getting stuck in it must have struck a chord.
They have 450 head of cows, and roughly 3000 acres. With 5 others on the rota.
I guess everyone must start somewhere to gain experience!

Happy at it

Sounds like a good opportunity, do you have much experience with machinery, tractors, handlers etc? If you find cows aren't for you, the other work youd be doing on farm could give you another route to go down?
