Some Insight

Hi

I will be in the market for another tractor soon, whereby I would appreciate some advice on what to look for.
Budget will be around 25k Inc the dreaded vat as not vat registered.

So what would be classed as a good alrounder for general hay making tasks, mowing, towing trailer etc

Oh and prefer the Red variant but will look to others if they would be more robust.

That would depend on the size of the haymaking kit & trailers you plan on using.
What sort of hp do you need? 2wd or 4wd? Loader? Cab? Aircon? What sort of gearbox?
And lastly, which red variant are you referring to?

Personall I'd go 2004 onwards 64 or 6620 John Deere they're very good tractors i still wush we had our 05 plate 64 and 6920 now
We got a 53 ,, 6620 4300 hours cab front suspension ,tyres about 50% £23000 , and just got a high houred but truly immaculate 6900 ,13500£
To the op ,try and find a 6610 with tls ,burdens have a 6000 hr 6610 ,in your budget ,genuine one owner

6610 isn't as strong in the backend as 8 or 9 .
Runs very hot and never felt on top of the job .
Good on loader but definitely not cut out for heavy work.

Go for a 6910 wish we had at the time.

Find a good one ,not about , a neighbour has a 14000 hour 6810 one driver , been trying to buy it but he knows its value ,as collector boys will snap it up ,as its immaculate and lots of extras ,

Hay making kit will be sourced after buying tractor, but was thinking of a round baler this time as it will be less hassle than the suicide bricks we made previously.
Trailer would be a tipping kind around the 10 to 12 tonne range, basically for moving horse muck etc.
Would want 4wd option as I feel they are more practical (personal preference).
As for hp our old one was Iirc 95 hp, so ideally a bit more this time as I may opt to do more with the land this time, plus I am contemplating buying a hedge cutter so would need to be able to use that on one.

Old choice was a Massey.

I would have thought a massey 5400 would be a good bet. A few years ago we bought a 10 plate 5480 (150 hp) with 3600 hrs for 24000 without vat and has been great. Cheap to run and had very little issues. A nice tractor to use and does every thing we want it to. For you i would have thought a 5455 or similar would probably suit what you want but it's pretty much the same machine.

For what you have just mentioned 90hp is more than enough

Never could get my head round this need for high hp my 85hp 4wd does all of that without breaking into a sweat

But are all low HP tractors equal, what I mean is are some advertised claims over egged and therfore underpowered so to speak?
I do not want to make a mistake and regret making different choices.

Also, don't forget, I have only had 2 tractors in my life, and you currently have one of them ?

The main differences would be reliability and comfort rather than power as most in that power category will be fairly similar. It may come down to buying something your familiar with.
