Sore knees

I have bad knees , always have had. Sometimes it's worse than other times, weather affects it.
Being over weight doesn't help, not say you are Rob:), but I know I am and I know I've got to do something about it! I saw a specialist about ten years ago, my Mrs was keen for me to find out what was wrong:rolleyes:, waste of time really as he couldn't give me an answer, but he did tell me to keep the weight off (I was slimmer then(y), and I thought I'd stay that way, wrong:() , he said any weight is multiplied by 7 through your knees:eek:, so an extra stone is like your knees are carrying 7 stone extra! Makes sense I suppose. But this is obviously not your problem :)

I also saw a chiropractor more recently, she noticed that when I stood without shoes on, my feet tipped inwards, that's the best way to describe it I think?, she recommended getting some arc supports to go in my shoes. Well that was amazing advice, the comfort was like night and day(y), no matter how good you think your boots are, if they are not supporting you foot properly this can effect you knees! I'm not saying it's cured mine, but by heck it helped(y), worth a try?

Try and find an excellent physio who can recommend exercises to strengthen and support the knees etc.(y) A strength and conditioning coach may be another option (I think:cautious:) I also have some arch support insoles and they really do make a difference when working in wellingtons for hours. Mine are inexpensive ones from Amazon that were recommended by another member a while ago but at your age it would probably be more sensible to have specialist insoles made to fit the boots etc. It's going to be rather a long haul until you are 70 if you don't look after your body while you're young:(

One final thought - do you have any fluid or inflammation on/around your knees? My physio gave me a lecture on how quickly such swelling / fluid kills the muscle and makes the knee unstable:eek::cry: Raised legs and ice packs on the knees for a few minutes in the evening after work may help as well.

Started with sore knees when I was about 18/19 put it down to growing pains as they stopped for a few years but seem to have been struggling for the last 12 month now

Anyone any tips that work?

Reckon my knees are knackered too bob☹️, they click and crunch like a bitch when I crouch down, they've hurt when walking downhill for about the last 10 years but hurt going uphill now which is new. I'm pretty sure the left knee is because of a lot of heavy clutch work as a kid, doesn't really explain the right one though

Had an X-ray last month which apparently doesn't show any damage, think I'd better give some exercises a bash[emoji848]

I had hurty knees, at the end of the day they would ache, more so if I had been doing physical work.

Dr prescribed anti inflammatory pills, made it better for a while, then they would hurt again.

Got myself a copper bracelet from a tat stall one day, £4.99.

Whether it does something, or it's all in my head I don't know or care but my knees rarely ever hurt after I've started wearing it!

Mine was actually worse after driving a dumper the other day but I don't think it helped that I was jumping between 2 so never stopped and rested it all day

Although you may buy good boots, have a look at a pair you have worn a while, how does the tread on your boot wear, where does it wear the most, if the sole does seem to wear more in one place, then a visit to a good podiatrist would be worth it, an awful lot of lower back/knee/hip problems can be resolved with corrective insoles.

I reckon copper helps my joints too.
I've got a copper exhaust gasket in my pocket we jokingly call my 'cock ring', it's hard to know whether it's placebo but if I leave it behind for a couple of days I'm sore. It's also good for stopping a bic lighter dropping through the gratings

I can this attracting a hell of a lot of swarf

Just been for a scan today and have arthritis in my left knee.
It feels like it is going to lock but specialist says sometimes the cartilage surfaces wear roughly and can feel like locking.
I had cartilage out of this knee when young so maybe it is a result of that (and of course heavy clutches).

I've got one :) Unfortunately arthritis is a family thing, Rob :( (not saying it's that, but be aware) As someone said before, not sure if it's a placebo, but I miss it if I take it off for any length of time. I've got arthritis in my right knee. If I stand for too long i.e a day at the auction, it aches like hell by night.

Yeah I know, my grandad (Bob) was riddled with it as was my great grandad on my dads side so I'm getting it from both blood lines :(

I used to have one and I broke it so never replaced it, not sure it ever worked but they've certainly got worse in the 18 month it's being without one

Arthur too :(
This wet, damp crappy weather too. Try not to work in damp clothes-try and have spares. My overalls got wet at the start of milking tonight and my knee is aching now, but I was stood a long time too.

A mum at school asked me if I'd hurt my leg last week, and I realised I'm starting to walk like an old farmer :nailbiting: (but you've a bit to go to catch me up ;))

sounds a bit harsh, but throw that fancy suspension seat away in ya tractor, I have bad knees worn away with years behind a steering wheel in a lorry with a fancy seat, went to hospital and when I told the consultant what I used to do, he said that's it.....your knees are flexing all the time even though they are not taking your weight upon them ....and they just wear away....... now awaiting to get 2 new knees ..........

Knees are easier to replace than a spine [emoji15]

Could be a fair amount of truth in that, I can spend 3 days in an older tractor or my Same and feel fine, but put me in the neighbour's JD and my knees feel like they've been vacuum packed after a couple of hours. I tend to screw the seat right down so there's only a little bit of travel (or let the air out) and that helps. Maybe just a different position?

Not much chance of a fancy suspension seat in a tractor damaging my knees. It's about 9 month since I last drove a tractor
