Sorry, the crime battle is almost lost

Crime, whether it be inner town or countryside; we are all losing the battle. I have never seen so much blatant open crime so casual in 60 years. Living in a small village, I need a padlock on my gate with security camera installed, I have been the victim of casual walk-on crime in broad daylight, if you haven’t experienced the total disregard for law during this open crime, I am sure you will; expect someone walking down your yard as the criminals know it’s no crime in today’s world. I feel sorry for larger land owners as they cannot secure or show security or deterrent on large areas, you are under attack. Quiet land with no activity is an obvious target. I suggest that landowners look at this in a different manner like never before, why not welcome bird watchers, photographers, responsible shooters, artists, wildlife enthusiast, school children onto your land, i.e. what harm is someone with a metal detector going to do? Maybe find you a share in a fortune. Would you rather have one of these on your land, than the other undesirable types (see these crime posts). The first step in a target stake-out is to work out how much activity is on your land, if there is little or none, you are a prime target, expect a visit. On my country walks, I have reported two incidents of fly tipping which led to charges, I am classed as a nosey-parker to those caught, tough; but caught they were and the publicity here is the deterrent in future. The point is, crime is likely to keep away if someone has their eye open, activity is visible especially if someone is taking pictures and recording number plates. Criminals hate cameras and nosey people. Landowners need to separate arseholes from genuine people, those who have love for wildlife and respect for the countryside are usually genuine, my experience says they are friendly and trust-worthy. Landowners should consider welcoming some support from those who are genuine and willing with joint interest to come together. It’s old hat and non-effective to shout, “get off my land”, that’s all I remember as a child who walked across a field, (Apologies to that farmer, I really did mean no harm),
Over the coming years life is going to change big time with very limited defence agains rural crime whatsoever, it’s going to be massive, you are going to need all the help you can get so forget rapid response. I urge you to think collectively across the country, you are on a new unprecedented level of crime. Good luck

Yes., probably metal detecting if I am any judge reading through the above. He may have a good point though, as we have found being a bit ‘urban fringe’ the more your neighbours are on you side the better is you defence against fly tippers etc.

If you let *one* person on your land, someone else sees them and assumes it's a free for all. Let one dog walker on and next week your field is fair game for anyone. Ditto walkers, riders, shooters, detector s the lot.

Sadly, very true!! And CV19 has accentuated this problem...

Random cyclist wandering around on and off footpaths are a PITA at present here. Challenging them is an issue, but seems to be working. Some judicious hedge trimming (to aid the walkers, of course) helps here.

Biggest problem here is Hare Coursing, "Mad Gary" my friendly metal dectectorist and I are not brave enough to see them off, I value my limbs and barns. However most of the local farms have a very good relationship with the Police and MOD Police, this has resulted in a number of arrests and cars crushed recently. Progress is being made but not enough as they were out again last night causing damage.

I swear it would be less hassle for the good citizens to live in prison. You may as well be there anyway, walking about with a huge bunch of keys locking everything.

I am sorry for those who think I am ‘after something’ after ‘previous threads’, please read them, they are open to your scrutinisation and judgement and you are entitled to judge, but please judge fairly rather than assume ‘he must want something’, that hurts! Just to be clear, I need nothing, I consider myself successful in my occupation, I may have grown up with a poor background, but I was raised to have manners and respect. I am not poorly educated, I have a masters degree in law and have had a great career which I am looking to retire from - (you never know, I may have even helped you or your family in my professional role without you even knowing). Like I said and I repeat, I need nothing, no charity, no breaks, no favours, I am comfortable with my life, please ignore my previous posts, I am happy to go to my shoots with my air rifle and pay, I can easily afford it, I need no help at all, I consider my posts on this forum curteous and I offered genuine help. My thread was meant to suggest something which I thought may be of worth considering the current crime rates; write it off, don’t debate it and ignore it by all means. That leaves me to wonder, what is the point of neighbourhood watch or countryside watch, do I now turn a blind eye knowing I am one of them? I appear to have been labelled as ‘one of them’ without anyone knowing me, this was my point.
