Sorting gate

Evening all, I'm looking to make sorting cows as they leave the parlour easier currently got a 15ft gate that I get out the pit and operate manually which although reliable is a pain when sorting larger numbers for vet visits etc.

I'm thinking all it needs is an air powered ram with a switch in the pit has anyone got similar and know where I could source a ram ? Haven't measured the length I need exactly but think the minimum would be about half a meter of travel but I haven't got a clue what size diameter and power wise is needed. I Imagine it needs to be fairly heavy duty to withstand cows knocking and pushing at it. I've already got a good air compressor above parlour.

When we were in the parlour we had an old fullwood rear gate ram on a 10foot gate to do exactly the same it lasted about a week because the gate wouldnt open or close fast enough and we were missing cows, youll find seg gates are usually only quite short and can whip back and to quite quickly

i made exactly what your after a few years ago , but dont use it now as we use head yokes for most big jobs and the odd lame/vet cow is done easier manually

i had paddle/toggle switches in parlour so i could operate from pit
the ram being above pivot point means a small amount of travel on the ram gives a lot on the gate
just used standard vacuum ram like used for parlour gates

the other alternative is to have a pulley system with a weight keeping the gate closed and pulling the rope opens it with the weight closing it after
