Speed sensor issue

Afternoon all
I have just fitted a speed sensor on the fan pulley on a trailed Techneat avadex machine, in the back of my mind I’m slightly concerned that the engine may stop, fan belt may fail etc and I would be blissfully unaware of that happy from the comfort of the buggy cab, everything works as it should apart from the magnet won’t stay on the pulley, it just gets flung off. Next try will be with a bigger/stronger magnet or some very heavy duty double sided sticky pad.
Any suggestions would be most appreciated
Thanks in advance.

What is the pulley made of? How fast is the pulley rotating? It may be possible to use a signal generator which does not use magnets. Are you using RDS equipment?

RDS used to do not sure if they still do a small red round magnet that you could screw and locktite onto a pulley with and M4 threaded screw used to work just fine on Accord type drill at upto 5500 rpm no problem and sensor picked up a single one just fine at that speed. If you fitted 2 at that speed it got confused.

This is a cheapo speed sensor I bought off Amazon, didn’t want to spend much in case it didn’t work. The pulley is rotating fast, what the actual speed is I do not know. I’m going to try a few things before I ring someone like rds.

That’s a great idea, I’ll look into that, thank you.
