When we built our house, we were under budget to the weatherproof stage, then massively over budget inside, and we thought we kept it cheapish.
Sorry not much help am I!
Great job so far.

Have a long hard think on vertical boarding. You may like the idea? Wide board, gap, wide board, gap. The gaps aren't big, just 3/16ths to take up any expansion. Then go over the gaps with thinner boards. Personally I have a feeling long runs of horizontal will not be kind on the eye. Just an opinion mind;) Here's an idea. I took the picture as I liked the brickwork (English bond) but it gives some idea on the vertical as to how it looks.

I build a house in Tasmania 30 years back. Exactly the same proportions as your build, just slightly smaller @ 24' x 36', with a rock base, instead of brickwork as it was free & in perfect sizes for a wall. The vertical boarding looked fantastic. This method is very common in Oz.

Thanks for the idea. But planning has passed black boarding horizontal and my yard is full of it so I'll keep to the plan though. Although I think you could be right re the visual aspect. It's never going to look amazing due to the lack of shape but we have some raised decking etc to try and break it up and in time s conservatory / sunroom will be added.
Some more up to date pictures plasterers finish on Monday then under floor heating in and screed.
Stopped for a while due to farm work. Water on aswell now . Today put septic tank in.

'Tis only an 'ammendmant'. Weatherboarding, it is still weatherboarding, just the boarding goes in a different direction!(y)
There's no cost involved either.

Not with pd I don't think. Any alteration requires resubmission.
You're very lucky @spikeislander our local council is now refusing to let open barns be converted, and no upstairs either.
twits make the rules as they go.

Ceilings all painted and walls had first coat.
Will finish cladding next week and guttering prior to harvest then it's dry and done.
I'm on farm duties then until November really. But Sparky's will do second fix and plumbers going to do under floor heating and I'll get the screeders in .
Use floscreed, much better finnish, and is better for ufh
