spin cycles dumb question number 38

If it's something like Prascend, it most likely tastes nasty as it's not uncommon for them to refuse to eat it.

If the carrot/apple/bread/banana is a small enough piece you can shove it in the side through the gap in the teeth and hold the mouth shut until she starts chewing, then poke in something tasty straightaway. I've had reliable success with that method and a small welsh pony but you have to have the nose in a half-nelson or they try to back out.
If all else fails . . . Try the backend!?

I asked my vet that very question.

He gave me a knowing look and asked, "Hunger?". Now why didn't I think of that?

I got fed up trying to insert wormer via a syringe into horses a lot larger and stronger than me and now anything like that is crushed up (if necessary) and mixed into a few handfuls of soaked sugar beet. If that is refused, more hunger and more sugar beet, possibly with more or less grated carrot on top. For that reason, and to aid training, all youngstock are introduced to carrots early on to the point of inducing addiction. Mine will do almost anything for a carrot but in the absence of that, sugar beet is next on the list.
