just bought an old tanker to do up, currently making a new splash plate and arm for it. Does the splash plate need to be round? And also whats the best angle to put it at as im just going to weld it up solid. Also what size should the splash plate be roughly?

Cheers!!

Our hi spec came with the first type above and it was awful. No matter what we tried we ended up with a stripe right in the middle which was lighter.

Ditched it for a Joskin plate with a huge back plate and the splash plate like the second type posted above and it works perfectly.

Have the joskin one it's spread pattern is brilliant, but really doesn't like any wind

Could also invest in a moscha spout which lets a tanker empty quickly whilst giving an even spread.
We did that and it's fantastic. Spread pattern is better than any normal plate, it doesn't cover the spreader, and it works fine in wind as well. The spreading rate goes up as there's less restriction and it spreads wider. Oh, and stainless steel parts. Well worth the £1100 I think it was.
It's honestly been flawless. The main selling points of larger droplets and less caking, are almost by-the-by. I'd buy another based on physical advantages alone!

If they would only say it meets the new low emissions slurry application requirements coming in this next few years I would have one in a heartbeat, and it would be the perfect affordable way to upgrade a lot of older tankers without needing to swap the entire tanker. They meet Danish requirements I believe, so why they haven't been mentioned in UK legislation I don't know. Apparently they cut nitrogen losses fairly significantly along with almost the simplicity and the same wide ranging ground conditions suitability of the splash plate.
