The problem with the negotiations is that they have been carried out in the public domain so the element of surprise or leverage is diminished. Had TM done the majority in “private” and kept the no deal clearly on the table, the outcome could have been different. The whole debacle is a mess and either we remain and become the weaklings of the EU or we crash out and face uncertainty. Either way has risks. Catch 22
