Evening,

If you are mixing say MCPA and Fluroxpyr (minstrel) would you go at 2 litres of mcpa and 1 litre of Fluroxpyr a hectare. Or is there a way of knowing how much of each chemical to mix?

Thanks

There is no hard and fast rule but you can use the label rates as a guide, and then adjust them with experience. A few questions to ask would be:

What are you trying to achieve, as in what crop and what weed are we aiming at?

What is the maximum dose of each product?

2 litres of MCPA and 1 litre of minstrel is a modest dose. It's the kind of rate I might use on a new ley, with small weeds from seed if you see what I mean?

Can you show me a picture of the field/ley and weeds and their sizes?

It will knock it for 6 imo . MCPA is hard on an old ley .

It's for a customer, it's just on some land he rents. I'm not sure how bad it is but I'm guessing there's a high seed burden of thistles hence the reason why I was thinking mcpa for a cost effective approach because it will probably have to be done again at some stage. Then there's probably docks so was just going to add Fluroxpyr. I havent spoken to an agronomist. I normally get the customer to organise spray for themselves so I'm not responsible but I'm supplying this. Sometimes I do like to use thistlex and minstrel but it will be to dear for him I know. Thanks

Spruce & Triad? It would take out those seedlings well and be gentle on the young grass. It will only tickle any clover too, if there’s any there.

This is established grass, not a new ley?

I should go as high as you can with the MCPA, and certainly 1L/ha of a 200g of fluroxpyr if not 1.5L depending on how the cans fit.

Go at 200L/ha water volume if you can, good steady spraying helps.

Adjuvants help. Solar plus or similar helps reduce drift and I had good results with it, not silly money either.

Spruce is weak as fudge and very expensive, triad is only any good on seedling docks and chickweed. Clover needs to be done before 4 true leaves as well so the weeds all need to be diddy.

I have seen good results with spruce on big spear thistles but it was at full rate with solar plus. Would have been murder expensive at the time.
