Sprayer pump failure

Got a customers pump in to repair. Don’t really know any history of it. Discovered all 8 springs broken in one way valves.
Is there any particular reason they break? not something I’ve come across

Did they get changed when the diaphrams got changed?

Incidentally, what are the pros and cons of a piston pump vs a centrifugal sprayer pump?

Springs generally start to give up after a while and break
Think that has probably been running under par for a while now
Not expensive to change all the one way valves and diaphragms
Yes but surprisingly I ran it up first and had water firing 20 yard. Amazed it was even running

Diaphragm pumps can be run dry, centrifugal can’t (or at least it won’t do them any good) Centrifugal more capacity. Less moving parts in a centrifugal. Centrifugal constant pressure rather than pulsating.

They look like comet pump valves. Springs have always been weak in them. I change mine every year, easy to do. I left them for two years when I first got the sprayer but found a few broken springs, pump still worked but sounded slighly different. Only need to change the springs, the valves don't seem to wear much and are expensive. Bits of broken spring can make there way around the pipework.
