Sprayer pump with water in the oil

I recently bought a small second hand sprayer for humble money. I knew there was a leak around the pump somewhere when buying.
Looking into it now, the pump is letting water down into the oil in the bottom of the pump when it’s running and then forcing the water back out once it gets too full. Is this a simple fix or is a new pump the best solution? I know very little about sprayers and their pumps

Yes it’s a diaphragm pump. That’s as much as I know about it. I’ll get it lifted off and get a better look round it and figure it out

It’s looks like it has 2 diaphragms and they are under the covers held on by the four long bolts (blue) but you will have to remove the top first ( the red nut on both sides)

Can any one tell me what that small valve is for on top of the pump?View attachment 1036366

When your diaphragms pump the water/spray solution they would make the pressure fluctuate resulting in a pulsating at the nozzle. To counteract this your sprayer pump has a chamber that has a membrane that you can inflate ( gently ) with air via this valve to smooth the pressure fluctuations. Normal air pressure in this is about 1 bar, 15 psi.

Best pumped up with a bike pump IME, not a pressure line ;)
