I often hear of people spraying down their machinery with oil before putting it away, to protect from rust. What is the best thing to use for this, both the oil and the sprayer?

Why used?
I saw a machine sprayed with used/waste oil and it made it look terrible. Still protected it I suppose.

All our machines coming out of hibernation at moment.

diesel evaporates used oil has some lovely chemicals in it that actually get right into the metal and any paint flakes does a brilliant job over wintry washes off when its time to use it ascetics are one mans viewWhy used?
