Very happy not to have that problem, but yes, the OP should have stopped

Did you have a few pipes blocked on the drill?

Planter !

Haha - no

" skip row " dryland cotton based on 1 m rows.
2 rows "in"
1 row "out"
So, 2 rows a metre apart, then a 2 metre gap.
It's done for moisture conservation, to allow a reserve of moisture later in the season as the roots grow across into the skip row area
We rely on stored soil moisture ( won't plant a summer crop such as cotton without at least 1 metre of stored sub soil moisture ) to grow our crops, rather than expecting it to rain . . .

So you missed an opportunity to explain to the lady that she wasn’t on the FP? So in essence, you were in fact actually condoning her being where she shouldn’t be, not the reverse.

As said above, five minutes to stop and explain to her she needs to keep to the FP (politely) would have been a far better option. Stupid misjudgment that might just land you in a whole lot more wasted time if she makes a claim. Don’t assume just because she was off the FP it was all her fault because you were negligent in not stopping spraying and asking her to leave directly with her dogs.

Perhaps she knew where the people path was, but was avoiding it, to keep out of your way.

Perhaps she did not wish to walk over stubble that had been sprayed with chemicals,it might be bad for her, or her dog.

Perhaps she did not keep to the path, but went around the outside so not to walk over your crop.

Perhaps she was not a full time rambling arsehole, just a lady out walking a dog.

Sorry OP, but you did wrong this time.

British farmers seem to hate dog walkers, horse riders, cyclists, ramblers, gypsies, townies, people who drive 4wds, immigrants, environmentalists, foreigners, anyone else who may want to enjoy the great countryside . . . basically anyone who doesn't work 26 hrs a day as an all round mixed farmer

But they still want everyone to support them . . .

I can't get my head around that

err, food shortages ?
if you look at the absolute plague of obesity ( quite often with people of a lower socio economic demographic ) there is obviously NO shortage of cheap abundant food, in fact, the opposite . . . Overeating is the BIGGEST health issue facing us now, not starvation
How many thousands of tonnes of food are wasted or thrown out everyday? People DO NOT care about food availability or food production, they are surrounded by cheap high calorie food 24 hrs a day . . .

British farmers really need to get away from this attitude that they are somehow " special " & that the great unwashed masses should be eternally thankful to them for their efforts, while only buying British food ( even if it is dearer than imports & the farmers themselves are driving around in imported vehicles ), while also supporting farmers in their chosen "lifestyle" with subsidies paid for out of their taxes . . . I AM the Lord of the Manor, you WILL respect me, know your station . . .

A little more respect / consideration for the general public would go a long way.
Including not spraying them with herbicide . . .

Its not 1950 anymore

I'm not looking for "special status" for farmers or to be bowed to as lord of the manor but neither do I want to be looked down on by society. Respect goes both ways, I don't advocate spraying people but neither do I advocate farmers trespassing or fly tipping in people's gardens.

Yeah I agree, but having read through this forum for a few months I haven't seen much respect or liking for the British public from members here . . .

Just saying . . .

Yep they're all barstewards and have the audacity to eat & enjoy the food produced by the sweat of hard working farmers & workers. How dare they!

Judging from your picture, you don't seem to have that problem. If your little island was as crowded as our little island, you might think differently.

Just saying. . . ;)

im lucky where I live, but don't get suckered into the propaganda, Australia is the MOST urbanised country in the western world ( even more so than Japan ), the vast bulk of the population have absolutely NO connection to agriculture in any form or any understanding of it. We are a VERY city centric, urbanised, housing estate living, country

So you might be but your urban population have got to travel a fair distance to let their dog kill your sheep.
I'd have probably stopped spraying and got out and told her. But people who don't have the common sense to stay on a footpath are a bloody pain in the arse around here so i can understand both sides

Yeah I was annoyed, as I wanted to crack on and get the job done as I had a fair bit of work ahead of me this morning. I just didn't want to do anything I shouldn't have done. If she was on a footpath then I probably would have stopped. Like I said, the field has a footpath going straight through the middle of it, but she was no where near it!

I think you need to take up that with council. Any public footpath should not go through middle of field, that's just bad planning and frankly dangerous. Imagine if there was a bull in there?!

The OP should have made a temporary diversion to the footpath, adequately signposted, around the edge of the field on the day of spraying Roundup and if something more toxic, for however many days it takes.

However, in normal circumstances anyone who is seen off the footpath should be challenged, otherwise in time they will claim that a footpath exists by implicit consent of the landowner.

As for footpaths not going through the centre of fields as mentioned in the post above, where has waterbuffalofarm been hibernating for the last 50 year? They go through the centre of fields as often a following a boundary down this way and are a pain in the flipping arse, but there is nothing to be done about it. That's life.

Most footpaths will run the most direct path from a to b.
You aren't allowed to keep dairy bulls on a footpath.
If it's going to kill you in the middle of the field it will just as happily kill you by the hedge

There is “ challenging a pleasant lady out walking her dog .... then there is stopping being polite. Asking her how she is, was she late for work today because a tractor didn’t pull over? Is her car muddy because the farmer is harvesting beet and dragging mud out? Did she not sleep last night as farmer was ring rolling until 3am (we work bloody hard don’t you know....) or is she just depressed and enjoying a walk as her ex husband ( farmer) is currently off shooting yahh, and can’t afford he child maintenance this week....
for goodness sake , did she swear at you for spraying her? No. Did she chase after you, no.. mate you are an arrogant arse

Edit, you may be married, would you have sprayed within 4m of your wife? You may have children, would you have sprayed within 4m of them, you may have a husband, would you have sprayed within 4m of him......

You do make some valid points. But much as we wish to appear amiable and considerate to the public, and so we should, we must also temper our philanthropy and goodwill with a touch of realism.

If we benignly smile upon all trespassers and wave them on by, we could be perceived as condoning unfettered access to our fields, which can all too easily set a precedent and be perceived as a given right of way for all and sundry to roam as they please.
