Spraying wheels - inches per ton?

Is there a decent rule of thumb to use when deciding if/what size row crops to buy for spraying? Eg I've just bought a used mounted sprayer (just cereals); the tractor and sprayer together will weigh about 6 tons - on decent ground with the odd wet spot what is the minimum tyre width I should be looking at?

You'll be governed by the load ratings for the tyres, and max speed. Cheapo row crops won't take much axle weight yet pukka Michelin Spraybibs will be much higher rated.

What brand of tyre do you have on the tractor? Do you have access to weigh cells or a weighbridge?

Thanks yes I take your point about load ratings and that's something I'd have to take into account but I was thinking more along the lines of tyre width and compaction/rutting/travelling etc -ie what's the minimum width that would take 6 tons on the fields in the spraying season without causing problems. Am I making sense? Nope haven't got a weighbridge nearby

Michelin and I expect other manufacturers have load/speed rating charts on their websites if you search for them, that’s the only way to be sure you are fitting a safe option

To give you an idea we used to run a fastrac /landquip demount on 270 width row crops no problem, I wouldn’t go any narrower on anything due to stability?
Decent tyres a must when this narrow as said above!

Cheers dh
Thanks yes that's handy to know, that setup must have weighed a fair bit more than what I have in mind so a decent set of 270s should be fine

Also especially row crops watch the speed rating ie it may carry 3 tonne/ tyre @ 30 km // hr but only 1.5 t @ 50 km / hr for example. Depends on your work but row crops get hot on long road trips.
I'm fairly lucky in not having much road work to do, small farm and land in pretty much one block
