spreading lime - pluming over houses

If the neighbour fly tips he's breaking the law, he's also trespassing with intent to cause a nuisance. He's certainly not doing an act that's a part of his job.

A massive (20 million tonnes/year) open cast quarry opened a few years ago, near where I used to farm. Local residents had to prove that dust & noise was due to the quarry, the quarry manager said it could be due to "local farming activities"

Look through TFF, half the posters moan about incomers expecting picture postcard farming, the other half apologise for doing normal farming activities.

I’m merely promoting debate..... personally if it was my house, I’d be annoyed. Not annoyed enough to complain but annoyed at having to clean my car ans windows again etc... my car is dusty about an hour after polishing it. I get mad, but hey I live in thr country and accept it. It’s just my opinion that’s all

We had this 2 years ago. Contractor was totally at fault. Spread 10 ha right beside 20 houses with a stiff wind blowing straight into the houses. I dread to think what the insurance claim was, all of the cars needed washing, 2 swimming pools needed cleaning, a child’s birthday party was ruined, someone claimed for curtains and a carpet to be cleaned. For once it was great to be able to pass the hassle on to someone else!

The gleaming car could also be a indicator they take pride in things and are good at what they do.

I don't get the farmers problems with a rep having a nice vehicle thing.
If my wife wanted to impress with her motor she'd be cleaning it twice a day . cars get dirty

When I worked at Trafford Park I had yellow cornflake dust on my car everyday. We didn’t bother about it. It was just one of those things like lime and dust in the countryside. Why are folk so fussy about such trivial things? It’s not like losing a leg or something is it.
If it was me I don’t believe there is much mileage in trying to placate these people. Don’t say anything, don’t engage with them or tell them anything. Let them do the investigating. Don’t dig a bigger hole for yourself. In my experience often they soon turn tired and drop it, once they have calmed down and time passes.

We had 3 years here with a building site just upwind. Numerous complaints were made to council, builder peomised it would be sorted, which meant the worst would be on a sunday , but in reality only stopped when development finished.
They are lucky it was just one day

No, dont blame the contractor.
Used to be a contractor .used to come across this all the time .The buck stops with the contractor . If you employed a contractor to do some spraying for you ,with some roundup (we Say) it wipes out your neighbours crop do you pay for it .
I bet you’ll be claiming off the contractors insurance

If we would’ve plastered these houses First thing I’ve been doing is getting onto my insurance company to see what they say .do nothing ,you are accepting liability for the damage and further damage down the line .been there done this. Don’t even wash the cars because if you damage them they will be after you even more .you may not damage them ,but you know what they’re like .
