Is it worth growing, the sense is every man and his dog is putting loads in, but the I read online many have drilled up with WW, driving through Suffolf the other day and there's lots more WW in than around Peterborough so is it worth it?
Is there any seed?
How much is seed???
Round bale spring barley straw struggling to make £5/bale up here. Stored inside.Straw will be worth money again this harvest.
Round bale straw making £18 a bale today at Auction.
Baled 7 good bales SB straw here last year so important contributer
to the bottom line.
Make sure to get the timings right on growth reg on Planet though
or it could end in tears.
If you thought it was going to be sub £100/t at harvest, why wouldn't you sell a sensible proportion now at £130/t ??I wouldn’t bother. I know one guy who normally has 800-1000ac of wheat and he’s got none in so going all spring barley. That’s just one but there 1000’s around the country growing it. It’ll be worth sub £100/t and I think it be over done straw wise as well.
That would shave a good bit off but Ive always shy away from it as I've heard it can be harsh on the crop. You could shave off a few more £££/ha by swapping from Axial to Foxtrot

I'm just leaving ours in shed and buying it in.
Only messing, I couldn’t leave your wanton extravagence on Axial without a mentionThat would shave a good bit off but Ive always shy away from it as I've heard it can be harsh on the crop.
The cheapest option by far is mugging here walking the barley rogueing by hand!!!!
Also, I know foxtrot has a early gs cut off date. Does it need a certain interval before/after other herbs like axial does if so it could be difficult to fit it all in before the gs cut off.
It is rather scary when you hold a can and think to yourself that it's nearly 500 quid worth.?
We seem to have a flush of very late germinating wild oats.
It cant be long before it's off patent, surely.
Even at 130 it will still be cheap, i wonder will the uk still be able to export barley tarriff free come harvest ? If barley is going to be heavily discounted then maybe tarrif free exports will help. Either way bad barley prices in the uk is bad news for irish growers ,cheap barley coming to a port near you......If it is sub 100 then the demand will be massive cheapest source in the world
Go on then sow more Oats coz ive got SB going where WB was going & some where wheat was going.Land here is worked already.
Rent is paid already.
Drill yoked on already.
Got fss in heap already.
Digestate booked already.
Probably got enough fungicide in shed for a basic program already.
So the only real cost is getting someone in to cut it. That being said, I'm leaning towards oats instead.
Enquired about Planet a couple of weeks ago and sold out - good old Westminster was available though
I think he might be One of those who’s fields shrink come harvest timeDid he not have the same drought in 2018 as everyone else?
