Check out Nidera (Wem office), for a competetive quote on seed and fertiliser, including maize seed, or to sell your grain.

Sorry to hijack, any maltsters down south trying reciprocal trading ie You buy their seed/fert/chemical/agronomy they buy your barley IF it makes spec? Happening with a few companies on the distilling side. Last year I paid £300/t for C2 maltster wanted £390 for similar C2... Should really be in WTF thread :wtf:...

Cheers BB

Cripes there is LOADs of that going on.

The classic is, yeah, we will sell you the seed, fert and chemical, you can pay for it instalments, but we own your grain and get to market it all....

Really? Not something your firm offers? :p Sorry - cheap shot! Does your group have a grain trading arm?

How many of the big merchants do this? Origin own GB Seeds as well as Agrii but they have never tried it on with me, though I have had bad experiences with GB Seeds. Do Openfield do chemicals too now? They do sell seed & CF fertilisers.

Thats a really good price Brisel, presume it was a good buying group?

It's from a big group based in Norfolk, yes ;)

16t of Propino and 40t of Planet assuming a "normal" TGW. The order was placed a while ago so the base price for the grain value may have been lower.

I normally use farm saved seed each year then buy in a couple of tonnes of C2 HVS to breed up for the following year but I had a bit of wheat admix in this year's and Planet is a new variety here too. I only saved £15/ha on FSS last year compared to buying in thanks to better marketing of my own grain and a big batch of new seed bags needed after Minnie Mouse had her wicked way with a few of them. The saving from FSS is usually more than that.
