Results came back today for spring beans. Only a couple of samples
Moisture 16%
Admix 0.40%
Bruchid10% and 11%
Stains 5% and 6%
Holes 11% and 10%
Haven't grown them in years and not spoke with my trader yet.
Are these going to end up as feed or would they make human consumption?

Feed I would say, if they do their results like us, i.e. Add the brucid (cut and beetle inside not yet emerged) and the holes together.
Max intake would normally be 10%, with contract spec at 5% beetle damage

Staining is also on the contract spec of 5%

Looks like feed to me. Is anyone even buying human consumption? According to PGRO Egypt has a larger carry over and reduced consumption due to Covid. I think any human premium is pretty modest, barely cover the the extra haulage costs if you are closer to a miller than a bean exporting port.

Was quoted £211 ex farm the other day for spring sown beans from an international merchant. No can do was the reply, yield was only a ton per acre harvested.

Plenty of supply for human consumption this year. Buyers are cherry picking the best samples for HC. Ours are making the HC grade but the premiums aren't high and one rejection from a distant home will soon remove the jam on top from the rest of a contract. 3rd party beans coming into our store must have a lower input programme as they have much higher levels of bruchid & staining. These are straight onto the feed heap.
