Some spring barley on lighter parts of fields. A fair bit like this.

6mm so far this month, no more forcasted for foreseeable future, 20 degrees and breezy, do not think there will be much of a cereal harvest in Moray this year. While plants are hanging in just , no moisture for grain fill.

What do you think malting barley going to be worth? Crops don't look good in most area's it's grown in ne Scotland

Depends on how the malters will view high screenings and high nitrogen, am sure they will claw it back some how!
Not really sure how the grain is going to fill with no rain forcasted? Would love to be prove wrong, but the next two weeks is not going to be fun as the dead areas of the fields expand.

just hope we all can forfill any contracts we have this year or the master take pity on us and also realize their prices are keeping us on a shoe string purse.
Maybe better contracts next year?

Do you think it will be a high screenings year?
Crops in Perthshire/Angus/Fife sown late & haven’t tillered resulting in thin crops. I’d expect what is there to be ok for screenings due to all the light they will be getting in such thin stands.

Only 10mm here on Saturday but showing 100% rain from 9pm -2am tonight which if it comes should set things up for grains fill.

Never seen spring barley go from sowing to ear out in under 2 months like it has this year though!!

Edit,
Beat me to it @mixed breed:)

some of mine seems to have bulked up after that rain the later sown stuff more so, what growth rate u reckons too late for it?

Just speculating due to lack of tillers but haven’t a clue!
Never really seen a season like it.

On the plus side wheat on the heavy land has transformed in the past 2 months. Cracking has let air down to the roots which combined with the heat means what looked terrible crops now look pretty good:)
