So let’s work it this way day six tons of spring oats at £130
Concrete not damp. 1mm max here.

I feel for you,we are normally in your camp.
The rain runs out when it comes from the west, the same when it comes from the south or north, and easterly normally skirts the edge. Hope fully there’s a few more chances for you yet. Mind you our brash needs it weekly anyway.

We dont need a lot. Just enough to stop the top cracking faster than the roots going down.

Linseed has finally got away from the beetle and is now roaring away.

I ended up having to put some pyrethroid on 8ha out of my 26ha. It just wouldn’t get away from the little sods on the driest clay field. Hopefully now it might as I sprayed yesterday and now we’ve had 6mm rain and a dull day instead of the sunny warm dry days!

Slightly off topic but does anyone else find propino downs tools as soon as the going gets a bit rough? Never find it as tough as Tipple which I would still be growing but you have to move with the maltsters. I guess Planet is what I will move on to next, anybody got some side by side to compare? Is it any tougher? Or are there any others I should be considering?

I thought I was the only one! Propino is flippin useless this year. The dry spell meant it completely broke down to ryncho.

Great to market and good quality but I hope I can move onto something else next year once the market has sorted out what it wants.

Have you got an end market for your Irina? We have also switched from Propino to Irina but have since been told it might not be so easy to market as Propino/Planet. Does look good so far and better recommended list scores than Propino so hopefully it will be worth something once harvested.
No, thought we'd grow it and see what we end up with. If everyone's Propino is rubbish, the maltsters/distillers might have to buy our Irina.
We needed a bit of rain, so cut some grass for hay on Monday. Worked a treat, got 9 mm last night. Baled the hay as haylage and wrapped. Win/win

I’m growing propino laureate and planet
Propino looks a lot more stressed than the other two but looks at this stage can be deceiving
I’m told maltsters not so keen on planet and they are very fussy folk

Propino here, not looking too bad to be fair although brackelled very badly last year but then I am ware a lot of SB did that in this area last year. Had 19mm so far over the last 2 days and must say everything looks a lot better for it, be interesting to see if we get any of the storms they are talking about, although am not too keen of the "hail" element they talk of.
