Spring crops really struggling

If spring barley doesn't grow soon, getting the knife bar under the heads is going to be a real problem.

Wheat is hardly 18" tall in areas.

so the big question is....has the rain the last few days been enough to save these spring crops and avoid a yield penalty?

As said above what flipping rain!! None here either. You do seem to forget quite frequently that just because you have had a weather event doesn't mean the rest of the Uk has had exactly the same as you!

surely at current growth stages with spring barley if you get rain in the next few days yield should still be ok but straw short?

From being 2 weeks behind with crop and grass growth stages in mid April we are now 2 weeks ahead in mid June. All plants went into survival mode when soil moisture deficits began to bite .Seed production was set and prioritised ahead of vegetative growth before lack of moisture started to kill the plants. I believe we need 5 inches of rain in this area to bring the soil up to field capacity.Pretty certain straw and grain yields will be down and if we now get a lot of rain there will be a lot of second growth and poor samples will result at harvest so maybe best if it stays dry and we get an early harvest.

Was forecast a hell of a lot of it over most of Scotland for today a few days ago......................... Hasn't happened.
Winter wheat now beginning to suffer too. Flag leafs now rolling on lighter patches within fields. Todays wind not helping either.

Was the weeds in tramline that had me wondering. They look like Corn Spurry which is an indicator of low pH
