I have never grown spring oats so do not know if they tiller like winter varieties. We normally drill winter crops at about 125 kgs/ha but I suspect we need to be planting more in the spring....? There was a thread on spring oats but I cannot find it.

Usually because there are wild oats in the sample.
We have worked hard over the years to keep our land virtually free.

I grew seed last in the past, like most seed crops by the time you have spent more on C1 seed and additional inputs required to keep them tip-tip the margin was never any better than a commercial crop but with much greater risk

Wild oats are a pretty easy and cheap weed to control these days in most crops

Had to get new seed this year as didn't have Spring oats last year, fancy new variety called Firth, see how it goes. Also got a posh winter oat variety, Gerald it's called, seemingly about as new as Concerto barley.
The se that came is 31tgw so will go a long way, will be going in at 400/m2
