Go for it... you never know till you try and will always wonder !! As long as you can afford to have a dead loss...
I was keen to have a go but both agronomists were against it.. gone a different route and trying lucerne instead..

We did lupins for several years.. yield was always passable ... but the late maturing, coupled with Cornish wet autumn meant a hard time harvesting..
what are you planning to do with the lucerne

Several options depending on how it's looking / growing

Primarily aiming to make some nice lucerne hay, hopefully in small bales if I have time... if not then quadrants

If the weather is not playing ball, then round bale wrapped silage for the cattle.. see how they get on fattening/finishing

Want to try at least a section of the field as a green manure for a following wheat trial..

So a few options to go at ...

being as how in order to get as much winter cereals sown as we could ,had to change cropping on a couple of fields and we have more or less decided to have a go with sp osr as a way to bring rotatation back into line, we have grown it years ago but a refresher on growing advice would be gratefully received, it wont be sown until its warm enough

Spring rape was a mainstay crop in the late eighties early nineties when we couldnt get winter stuff in
It usually did ok and sometimes 1.5 t/acre
Turnip rape was very good.

That was before the days of 'Double Low' replaced 'Single Low' OSR (i.e when Cobra replaced Bienvenu), which set back Winter OSR yields for the next 10 years until improved 'double low' breeding finally caught up.

I can't say if the same was true for Spring OSR, but it might be a fair assumption.
