Sputnik Vaccine

It's now a goer. I'll admit that I had serious reservations about it because I don't trust the Russian authorities at all; but it's now been used and reviewed by reliable org's and it seems to be entirely reliable in itself. Good on the Russians for getting it to work so well, perhaps they'll be a bit more open with methods and data in the future, but it's still a triumph for them, so credit where it's due.

It seems that there is a very good chance it could work well as part of a two-jab system with the AZ vaccine. Good news.

The Russians and the Chinese are implementing a great propaganda coup on the west. They can show up the west as self centred, squabbling and hording vast quantities of vaccine for themselves. Whilst they are busy supplying the poorest countries or western embargoed ones with a cheap reliable vaccines.

The Russian one is a goer, the Chinese one shows 50% effectiveness... i.e. not worth using.

The Russian scientist behind Novichok, claims to have developed a treatment for Covid which “stops it in it’s tracks”! He calls his antiviral treatment Immofon.
Leonid Rink is his name, and it rather appears that developing agents to “stop things in their tracks”, is his speciality.

Good question, but the one(s) used in South America have proven pointless.
Sinovac, looks like you can choose the efficacy that suits you, anything between 50-91% :banghead: :D Just another example of the hurried and botched trials going on. The CanSino vaccine is probably the hot one to watch.

Thank fully for the billions of people in the world there are many vaccines now available
if one breaks down another will be able to fill in and there is now manufacturing capacity to have several billion doses by 2022

produced and tested in less than a year
a year before many pundits predicted last summer
good job some descision makers could see through the trees and see the wood

There are a great number of similarities between Sputnik and AZ. Did I read somewhere , sometime before Sputnik was released , that the Russians had hacked into the Oxford research ?

Indeed it should be good but would you trust the batch that ended up in your arm any more than than the Chinese one. Talking of which, how are the WHO investigators getting on. What a total waste of time other than to establish that the truth will never be known. We will never learn.

The who should be investigating to improve the response next time there is a virus jumps over

this has been happening since the beginning of time
no good blaming others and forcing them to hide the true origination

I wouldn't trust any current Chinese one as things stand; the Sputnik I'd now be fine with if it's either made in a trusted lab and / or has been batch tested by a trusted lab, as with ours.

The science aside, and applying our cynical and common senses, it's simply not in Russia's 'international image' interest for this to be anything other than good and to stay that way. Which is another reason why I am astonished at the Chinese peddling such an ineffectual one.

Are you sure 😏
I'd not be surprised if they pinched some things worthwhile to save time, money etc., but the jab itself is, although similar, working in a markedly different way. No matter, what's done is done, it's good stuff and the sooner its being produced and distributed globally, the better.

I follow the logic but while there are more reliable options I would decline.
