what do you do?

full time staff member, had many a telling off for cab smelling of smoke over the 2 years he's been here, but has always denied it. I've always been suspicious he either smokes with the back window open and hopes I don't notice, or stands in the doorway on a rainy day to save getting out caught him red handed today, jumped in the tractor puffing away. he claims part time staff member also does it so why should he bother. BECAUSE IT STINKS!!!!!

I’ve got slightly a different stance on this. If only he uses it of course imagine how many hours you would lose if he pulled up every time? I don’t smoke in my van often but if a whole day of driving I do. If I’m in a manky digger I do but I obviously wouldn’t in someone else’s. But as a twist to my thoughts I smoke a fair bit but getting into my mates brand new pick up makes me gag with the stale smell. Can’t imagine it would be worth much now

Maybe too late now @miniconnect but when the smoking ban came in ,,did you tell the staff then that smoking in the works vehicles was banned ,,there isnt a farm anywhere that wont have flammable and explosive materials on it ,,last thing you want is a valuable tractor stinking like a stale ash tray and then its value drops when you want to change it ,,and not nice for others to use breathing in that smell all day .

Build him a smoking hut, in the corner of yard

No smoking in company vehicles or premises

No haulage firm would stand for smoking in trucks as it breaches H&S and duty of care to employees

You could be liable for H&S as the employer !!

Is he a valued employee? If so if u come down too hard on him hel probably choose the smoke over the job and go get a job with some1 else. As another post said its better than usin a phone

It’s also better than injecting heroin, but that doesn’t make it any better. As for his attempts to throw a colleague under the bus to save his own skin, that’s a pansies trick, pure and simple.
Think you'll find he threw him under the tractor .
