Not too sure about that, once you have wife, kids etc you can’t keep moving round every couple years

I did say there are exceptions, I’m fortunate i have a couple of friends who are top farm managers and people are constantly requiring their services.

One of them has a young family and has moved twice in five years, but the kids have stayed in the same school and his wife didn’t have to move jobs.

Herd manager (hands on)I don't expect someone to milk every milking,I want someone with enthusiasm for the job.

I can only think of one herd with a herdsman locally and they are probably the largest herd in the country.
We have been seriously considering a herdsman, I would like a jack of all trades ideally, I would not expect some to be stuck in the parlour everyday. I enjoy milking myself but don't want to be in there every milking. The parlour is a 2 year old 24/48 swingover so not some prehistoric parlour and will be milking 380 when all calved

As far as a herdsman is concerned accommodation is the issue, nothing local available and I totally get that a static is not acceptable,

We’ve a 3 bed in the village,2 bed cottage and a excellent twin unit, for accommodation,I’m a bit nervous of letting them with the job in case I’m stuck with a plant pot.

I’ve always favoured a few part time as your never totally left in the crap,I could have written the same original post as were in the same boat.
