Standard format vaderstad carrier

Does a carrier in standard format of 2 x discs and then press level ground well? Would it level off after potatoes?

This is an older machine (2009) so there’s no levelling board or front Harrow frame. It’s available for £8,500 and would go straight to work. No frame cracks and discs are all good. Roller is about half worn.

The press is pretty much the depth control but it will put the ground down but not like a proper stand alone press.levelling is pretty limited but they don’t level like a cultivator

Can you get none genuine bearings for the discs? And if so do they last well?

Be careful on the older machines. You don't say what size machine you are looking at is but a Complete set of bearings for a 6.5m was £2400 and then you've got to fit them and might find some of the shafts are gone. You don't want to know what it costs to replace the rear press rings as the were over £100 each. Discs weren't to bad at about £20 each but the point is you buy the machine for £8500 and could then end up spending another £8500 on it to get it right which yes is still cheaper than the new ones but just go into it with your eyes wide open.Dealer refurbished ones look better value from what we have seen than home refurbished.

Did you retro fit the levelling boards as I don’t think I’ve seen one with a set on?

Ours is the same as this except it has hydraulic adjustment on the boards

If you're wanting to level the ground up, don't bother with it if it doesn't have a leveling board. The carrier XL in pic would be perfect for tatie land but if you're limited to a budget then a second hand normal carrier will be fine.
