Standing straw!

A little early maybe, but i have had inquiries already regarding straw. How do people think the market will be this year. I always try and be fair to regular customers, taking an average of a few local sales, but wonder if the fairest way is to go to auction.Last year i saw some very average spring barley go for £100/acre,next door to me![a one off] and hadn't got the heart to charge regulars that much.Ended up with £95 for good winter barley and £60 for wheat, even though i had seen wheat up to £85 at one sale.It is an income not to be sniffed at, but want people to come back.
Also does anyone know what commission the auctioneers take?

Barley will be cheaper this year with wheat a tad dearer, if weather is favorable straw will drop by end of harvest after a rush for the off
Is that because there's so much spring barley planted this year?
A good crop of winter barley is always the best buy as it outyields wheat by a long way and is more likely to have better weather in july/aug[hopefully].

straw wheat or barley will be hard to source we could have already sold next harvest acreage at least twice but looking at the crops we will only have half as much as normal so minimum price will be twice last year if any and i doubt it spare usually sell 300ton/150 acre

I am seriously considering putting all the straw crops for sale by tender. I can then decide if its worth selling and to who. If it doesn't make what I want or don't like the prospective buyer, I'll chop it.

Not a bad idea.Payment half before harvest and half on baleing.
