yea but straw is not a dead loss once its shat on, it has some value to us same as it does the corn grower, not to sure about sawdust
Dont think sawdust particularly wonderful , slats etc slurry, straw is only going one with power stations , put it this way would you build a sizable cattle shed fully bedded on straw today ? even if i had my own id be thinking twice.

no I am tempted to try having cubicle beds with no bars as was discussed on another thread a while back

Slurry is ok, but drawbacks are storage ( can’t stack it up in the field ) and more closed periods for spreading . We do both from the pig farm. Key to slurry is getting it onto a growing crop

Totally agree, if you can get it on a growing crop you are laughing. It would nearly be worth buying your own LGP tyres and an umbilical kit for a big arable acreage. Little sniff before autumn closes in and a good dose in the spring. Save you thousands.

That's a late sale. Hope it goes well. The Meysey Hampton sale did well a couple of weeks back. Be interested to hear how your prices compare.

I think it did very well, prices were WW £55-£70/ac SW £52/ac and SB £40-50/ac. 30 acres of WW was 50-55 and the rest 68-70.

Yep. You’re hauling 80-90% water. Got to look at the bigger picture though
Is FYM any different? The water is just better hidden. Beauty of slurry for me is 10ft tanks can be forgotten from autumn until after 1st cut, then piped out. Only grass I've got is on slurried ground (even splash plate without rain). ROI for new tank 5 years ago was >10 years; now <7.

So how are you going to make me sell our straw into the livestock industry then?
What difference do my actions make? The only facility I own is a draw chopper. You don’t seem to understand the word sell either. What is to stop a livestock farmer selling the straw on? You Tories tie yourselves in ludicrous knots defending the indefensible.

Yes, you're hauling less water with manure @ 25% DM than slurry @ 2-10%.

The water is useful bulk to have with a side benefit of irrigation in this weather!
