Stanhay drill

Hi
Our gamekeeper has an old Stanhay drill with fodder beet belts on it.
Any idea if I can get belts to drill maincrop green globe turnips anywhere?
And if I just swap belts or if there's other adjustments to make before use?
All suggestions appreciated.

Cheers
Mart

You need belts and basses that's the black hard plastic shoe under the belt , you will need graded seed . Get the seed grade before you buy the belts . Cant remember if they are the same size as Swede seeds
Thank you I'll have a look.
Any idea who will stock them?
Stanhay won't reply to messages

Unless your wanting to lift them why not just do them with an air drill
We drilled some with a air drill, came up that thick they hardly globe.
Put some in with a direct drill and they globe better.
But to get them to globe up properly I think I need precision drilling. (could be wrong)

I grazed a field this year that had been done with a combi drill and they were ok, I'd agree though slightly too much seed and it can be a disaster

If you want to grow maincrop turnips, can I suggest you look at Massif turnips instead. Having grown both, the Massif is more vigorous and far higher yielding, with bigger bulbs.
I DD mine but it’s a job to get the seed rate right. If you go too high, and you get good conditions for germination, they don’t bulb well. If you go too low, then get a dry spell or flea beetle go mad, you end up with a very sparse crop. I usually try to go at about 750g/ac (natural seed) with DD, which is difficult to accurately calibrate for. Thinking of getting some rice or something to drill with it.

Thanks for that I'll have a look.
