I've just seen on facebook that certain rural areas are being offered a discounted hardware cost of only £99

Typically I ordered it at the weekend at £300.

I think if you were eligible it would be applied anyway but if you think otherwise there is a link for partial refund for those that have just bought.

Putting my details in earlier gave the discounted rate.

Thanks for the link for a refund. I had planned to return it and buy at the cheaper price but that saves both me and Musk the hassle!

We've had Starlink 6 months now and its absolutely fantastic, gone from not being able to watch Netflix on the computer and browse the internet on your phone to now 2-3 people on the internet and someone can be on a video call. It was easy to install and have had virtually no issues with it. Couldn't recommend it enough to be honest

Good to hear.

To be honest, it was the horror stories of dealing with Customer "Support" that has put me off going for it... yet.

Have you ditched the old landline then and gone for an IP phone instead now?

I bought a second router to make a mesh network and I had problems pairing it, Starlink support was useless but found the Reddit community really helpful and that solved the issue. We don't have a landline anymore, use Wi-Fi calling on our mobiles. Honestly wouldn't go back - we had a couple of days of snow and the Starlink pre-heated itself to prevent build up.

My latest phone (MotoG cheapie) has wifi calling, which has transformed mobile usage here for me. Think I might get Herself one too.

Good that you found the support you needed anyway (y)

Update after 8 weeks in:

Once we got up and running Starlink has been good; reliable and quick. Download speeds vary from a low of around 80 mbps to almost 300 mbps. We’ve had no dropouts at all.

I have bought an ASUS ZenWiFi MESH network pack which I’m currently running parallel to the Starlink router but intend to go to bypass mode soon and shut down the Starlink WiFi completely as it has poor coverage.

Would I go Starlink again? Yes, definitely. Just try to avoid needing their dreadfully slow customer support.

I got it recently. Wholeheartedly recommend it.
I am a fairly content person nearly all the time, the one thing that makes me miserable is crap internet. Starlink has cured that one for me
When you say reports of poor customer service have put you off are you comparing to the wonderful customer service you get off Openreach, BT, Sky etc? Cos they are shite.
Must say I was very impressed with the Skylink hardware, it has the feel of being solid, well put together and hardwearing. No flimsy plasticy feel to any of it, just feels like how you would like things to feel when they are well made out of proper materials. The router must weigh 10x the one I had before that feels like it was made out of a crisp packet. (I am absolutely no fan of Musk and it isn't easy for me to give him praise)

Happily none of the above is providing my CS!!! The only problems I am having is that OpenWoe will not replace 2-300m of shagged copper with more joints than a butchers.... Apparently, because we are slated for a "fibre upgrade", which will NEVER happen :(

I wish I had done this, the one problem with Starlink is the router and if you have a large house you may want to build a mesh but don't use the Starlink routers

TBH, from I have read about the inbuilt Router, they will work OK in an American timber and plasterboard property, useless in a trad built house. Did you have any issues getting the adapter, it really seems a retrogade move to take a port out of the box!

Not used a proper Mesh setup, as I have ethernet cabling about the farmhouse, and a remote aerial on top of the chimney for the yard. Something to have a dabble with sometime.

Easily done.

get the Starlink Ethernet adapter (about £40 iirc), plug in an alternative MESH router to it, open the Starlink app and select bypass mode under the router settings. 👍🏻

You‘ll get better signal coverage then and much more control of your WiFi system (depending on the MESH system you choose) including the options missing from the Starlink router to run a guest network and/or limit bandwidth.
