I think we have all been mentally damaged by the autumn of 2019 - I admit to getting nervous whenever it rains in September/ October now, you can’t help think what if it doesn’t stop again

why do we put ourselves through this really ? !
Because farmers are ruled by the heart and not the brain, me included!!!!

Moved to the driest field on the farm. The gravel hole field it’s called . Only trouble is it’ll probably be too dry in June.

Certainly not panicking here yet. It was so dry up to last week that any cultivator would have brought up lumps and DD would have been chipping at the surface. A nice bit of rain since but the drains are a long way from running yet.

I think their is a new industry related illness AAD - Autumn anxiety disorder.....
I'm beginning to think this time of year is harder than harvest.
Into September we invariably still have some harvest to cut, always bales to move, grain to take to store, grass to cut, beginning of autumn calving.
Swiftly moves to maize, cultivations, cattle in.......and last on the list - drilling.
Then we can relax

Relax... or just keep fretting because its mid November and some drilling is still to be crossed off the list....

Is this thread a joke? less than 20mm since early July. Cambs. no grass, no OSR, no cultivations. Desert.
no joke 169 mm since july with low transpiration in july and august drains now flowing
10 miles away half that amount

its not the first rains that hurt but the follow up rains
wet in the week after drilling from now on will do the most damage to yield
